Bubi is on High Alert as She Follows Elephants Khanyisa, Timisa & Limpopo! Fishan Tags Along Too

Bubi makes us laugh sometimes… she is always so ready with that eagle eye, shooting dirty looks if anyone she doesn’t quite trust comes too close to Khanyisa. Sometimes this includes Timisa! Bubi has given the young elephant a knock before, letting Timisa know back in 2020 that she was no longer the herd’s baby and had to take a step back to let Khanyisa receive all the attention. Now Bubi has given Timisa a new knock, but unfortunately we didn’t capture it on camera, nor do we know the reasoning behind the incident. But we do know that Timisa went running for the hills, after her scare from Bubi.

In this video, Bubi protectively follows Khanyisa and keeps all eyes on Adine too. Limpopo starts out as the dedicated allomother for this afternoon slot but Bubi clearly is a little extra overbearing and ensures the job is done properly.

Sweetly, the females stay close to Fishan, the father of the herd in many ways as he always watches over the young ones happily, when they’re feeding in the bush. Fishan also shares his paddock in the homestead with all the young elephants and orphans (and Tokwe) and has a close bond with them, especially Timisa.

Timisa and Khanyisa enjoy some cute trunk playtime too.

It was good to see Timisa walk calmly past Bubi after her the knock she got. Poor Bubi being feisty or a tad agro is for sure trauma from when she was younger, maybe a female really badly treated her thus her perception of female to males. But it’s good to see her being with the others and no dramas, it’s great to see her caring for Khanyisa. What a lil character Khanyisa is always trying to match strength with Timisa, my goodness it will be interesting when she gets bigger! 🤭😀

I recall that previous "knock" that Timi had and am sorry Bubi has done this again. No, we don't know what she went through in Zimbabwe but I'm certain traumatic memories resurface from time to time which cause these occasional outbursts. I love each and every member of this Wonderful Herd and just regret that it took the serious injury of little Khanyisa back in January 2020 for me to discover them. Oh I am sorry for Timisa 🐘😢. So I guess Bubi 🐘 is just as mischievous as Mambo 🐘. It's a shame you are not aware of her past. It almost sounds like it could have been a human female that had treated her so bad therefore that is why she gets testy with Adine from time to time. Glad to see that Limpopo 🐘 was near by. I'm thankful you recognize trauma as the probably source of Bubi's outbursts and occasionally aggressive behavior. As a survivor of trauma myself, I can tell you it still affects you even decades later.

I am so sorry that Bubi knocked Timi. Poor baby. But Bubi has a different kind of character. She is ever watchful and always on her guard. She is quick to survey the area before making her next move. I wonder what she would do Adine if you were to approach her alone and talk in your sweet and gentle voice to see if she would come and let you touch her trunk like you do with all the others. I am sorry that Bubi had trauma in her past. That time that Mambo chased her the others ran to her side. And this affirmation is important. She has been very affectionate with Khanyisa and we can see that she loves to have her all to herself--much like Kumbura.
