Thankfully SMSL went with a much larger and clearer lcd display than what was on the SU-8. Small things make a big difference

It will be interesting if comparing it with SMSL SU-8 v2, it seems very similar except for the bluetooth and better physical control

I ordered one today from Amazon and planning on pairing it with a thx 789. Im upgrading from Ifi's zen dac. I have the lcd 2c, lcd x, and hd6xx. I can't wait to listen to it when it comes in. Thanks for the review.

No remote?
Had the SU–8 for a few months, before I went for the RME ADI 2 DAC and do prefer to have a remote.
The SU–8 had this glare, you mentioned. I did like the Rich 2 sound option on the SMSL.

I just picked up an oppo sonica dac (uses the same ESS ES9038PRO SABRE DAC).
It is also a Network Streamer and can accept a usb drive full of music (24 bit & DSD files)...
Not to mention the app which is still supported... Hardest part is finding one at a decent price...(discontinued)

Anyone else having difficulty with MQA? When I play MASTER quality tracks on Tidal, the display shows "44.1" on it. I thought it should say 176.4 or 352.8 with the 3rd unfold?

Hello, Su-9 + Sh-9 or RME ADI-2 DAC FS ? Is the RME rly the best currently or is there cheaper setup with same audio quality (resolution, soundstage etc.) I do not case about functions, filters etc. Please advise.

Hi thank your for your insightful review. I am intending to get the SMSL SU9 to be placed before my node 2i so my bluesound just serves as a streamer. Would this give a better difference in sound quality? Or should I just stick to my node2i. Set up wise, I have a Schiitt Freya + tube preamp, an XTZ power amp and Klipsch RP 6000f speakers. Appreciate your thoughts.
