Next up is Mark Leach’s several-million word work, “Marienbad My Love.” This one, though longer than Proust’s novel, faces some major issues. Foremost is that not all of the content is written by Leach. Much of it is a compilation of pre-existing texts. Perhaps one could say that he made the entire piece because he organized the content. However, if this is the case, then any anthology could be a book, in which case whoever could put the greatest number of novels into a single text would have created the longest book. This is not to mention that, like Nigel Tomm’s text, Leach’s is a collection of several volumes, each of which may be considered a book by itself. So, in a sense, the length of a book is arbitrary: that is, someone could push a series together and say it’s one book (essentially what Tolkien did with the “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy).

While we’ve been dealing with books from the last century so far (in fact, mostly from the last couple decades), this next one comes from as early as 3000 BC: the Hindu epic the “Mahabarata.” When translated this comes in at nearly two million words long. But of course, it comes with its issues. First, “Mahabarata” is written in a different form than the other books―namely, epic poetry. This may not be much of an issue for the record book, but it raises the question of whether it should be considered within a different category. That is, is a single poem a book? It also faces the same issues some of the other books have faced, such as authorship, as we have no knowledge of a single writer, but only an era of several centuries during which the tradition was gradually compiled.

There are some other options, such as Madeleine de Scudery’s “Artamene, ” but this also faces the issue of publication. It was unpublished during its time, due to its immense size of over two million words. Nonetheless, it is published now and even available on Amazon.

Jules Romains’ “Men of Good Will” is a similar example: though it is a published multi-volume work of about two million words (only slightly shorter than “Artamene”), it is not considered the longest novel. This seems to be because of its several volumes. Yet, Proust’s novel has eight parts. So, if he had called them volumes, would his work still have been chosen?

Regardless, for the record of longest book, my money is on “Artamene, ” as it checks all the legal, creative, and authorial boxes. The only holdup seems to be that it was not published in its day. This is a testament to its high word-count, as it was only unpublished due to its exorbitant length. Perhaps the Guinness World Record should expand its definition for what makes a book.

Virat Kohli:- Born 5 November 1988 in Delhi. Is an Indian international cricketer. He is a middle order batsman, who can also open the batting. He can also bowl right arm medium pace. Kohli was the captain of the victorious Indian team at the 2008 U/19 Cricket World Cup held in Malaysia. He represents Delhi in first-class cricket and plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. He also played for the West Delhi Cricket Academy. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut in 2008 and was part of the Indian team which won the 2011 World Cup. Despite being a regular in the ODI side, he had to wait until 2011 before playing his first Test.

Youth cricket and early career

Kohli first came into the spotlight when he played for Delhi in a Ranji trophy match against Karnataka on the day of his father's death. His team mates needed him at a crucial moment when he was much more needed at home. But he said that he wanted to bat and scored 90 runs. Mitthun Manhas, the team's captain, remarked that "That is an act of great commitment to the team and his innings turned out to be crucial".

Kohli captained the victorious Indian team at the 2008 U/19 Cricket World Cup held in Malaysia. Batting at number 4, he scored 235 runs in 6 matches at an average of 47, including a century against the West Indies U-19s. He was also commended for making several tactical bowling changes during the tournament.

Kohli was instrumental in India's win of the 2009 Emerging Players Tournament in Australia. In the final against South Africa, Kohli scored a century and India went on to win the game by 17 runs. Kohli emerged as the leading run scorer of the tournament, aggregating 398 runs from seven matches including two centuries and two fifties.

Kohli played for Royal Challengers Bangalore at the 2008 Indian Premier League He was bought for $30, 000 before the first season in 2008. He did not perform well, scoring only 165 runs in 13 innings at an average of 15 and taking only 2 wickets in his bowling. But he improved marginally in the second season, scoring 246 runs in 16 innings with an average of 22.36 and taking 9 catches and 2 run outs. In the third season he scored two half centuries. He scored 307 runs in 13 innings at an average of 27.90. In the fourth season of the IPL, he was the only player that Royal Challengers Bangalore retained, preferred over the likes of Rahul Dravid and Ross Taylor.

ODI specialist (2008–2011)

Following a hundred in the Emerging Players Tournament in Australia in 2008, Kohli was selected in the ODI squad for India's tour of Sri Lanka. Kohli made his debut in One Day Internationals against Sri Lanka in the Idea Cup in 2008 when both Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwagwere injured. He opened the batting in the first match, but was out for 12. But he made a crucial 37 in a low scoring second match in the series, which helped India win and level the series. He made his first half century, a score of 54, in the fourth match which helped India win the series. This was India's first one day series win against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. He was included in the squad for the home ODI series against England later that same year but because both Tendulkar and Sehwag were back in the squad he was not given a chance to play. Kohli was then dropped from the squad for the five-match ODI series in Sri Lanka against Sri Lanka in January 2009 in favour of the all rounder Ravindra Jadeja.



In the absence of the injured Yuvraj, Kohli got a chance to play in the 4th ODI when Sri Lanka toured India in December 2009. He scored his first ODI century, milking singles with Gautam Gambhir they shared a 224-run partnership for the third wicket as India won by seven wickets to seal the series 3–1.


Senior batsman Sachin Tendulkar was rested for the tri-nations tournament in Bangladesh in January 2010, so Kohli played in each of India's five matches. After making nine in the opening loss to Sri Lanka, he top-scored with 91 to help secure a win after India collapsed early in their runchase against Bangladesh on 7 January 2010. He then ended unbeaten on 71 to help win the match for India with a bonus point after they chased down their target quickly. The next day, he scored his second ODI century, against Bangladesh, bringing up the mark with the winning runs. He was much praised for his performances during the tournament, and became only the third Indian to score two ODI centuries before their 22nd birthday, following in the footsteps of Tendulkar and Suresh Raina. However, in the final against Sri Lanka he made only two as India collapsed to 5/60 and an eventual four-wicket defeat.

Kohli was appointed the vice-captain of the ODI team in 2012 and handed over the Test captaincy following Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Test retirement in 2014. In early 2017, he became the limited-overs captain as well after Dhoni stepped down from the position. In ODIs, Kohli has the second highest number of centuries and the highest number of centuries in run-chases in the world. Kohli holds numerous Indian batting records including the fastest ODI century, the fastest batsman to 5, 000 ODI runs and the fastest to 10 ODI centuries. He is only the second batsman in the world to have scored 1, 000 or more ODI runs for four consecutive calendar years.[5]Among the T20I world records held by Kohli are: the fastest batsman to 2, 000 runs and 1, 000 runs, [6] most runs in a calendar year and most fifties in the format. He also holds the records of most runs in a single tournament of both the World Twenty20 and the IPL. He also has the highest historic rating points for an Indian batsman in ODIs (909 points)[7] and T20Is (897 points)[8] in ICC rankings and 2nd highest rating points in Tests (912 points) behind only Sunil Gavaskar.[9][10] He is the only batsman in history to average over 50 in Test matches, ODIs and T20Is simultaneously.[11]

Kohli has been the recipient of many awards such as the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy (ICC Cricketer of the Year) in 2017; ICC ODI Player of the Year in 2012, 2017 and Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World in 2016, 2017.[12] In 2013, he was given the Arjuna Award in recognition of his achievements in international cricket. They talk for a little while then Victor's parents say its time for the rehearsal.
