What a powerful line: “he never got older”.

I AM A GROWN MAN
I CAN WATCH A CAMPAIGN ENDING WITHOUT CRYING
"He never got older."

"He never got older...and here I am still...who decides such things"

"He never got older and here I am still....who decides such things?"
"Good kid"
"Sorry Bess"
Those lines hit so hard 😕

This story began with you going in guns blazing as a near invincible walking tank dropping enemies like flies, but ended in one of the saddest of all the BF1 stories.

Before I had seen this cutscene the last time I teared up at a video game cutscene was soaps death. I almost broke down crying when I saw this.

The difference between the dev team behind BF1 and the dev team behind BFV can probably be seen in just this one moment.
The BF1 team wanted to make this game, wanted to pay homage to those who lost those they care about, and those that gave their lives during the conflict. To indirectly teach the importance or raise awareness of the Great War to a generation that might not even know it happened.
The BFV team didn't have that drive, that passion that the BF1 team did. as seen by the "Don't like it, Don't buy it" mentality and the shitstorm the reveal trailer caused.

There have been many times where I cried to a video game character dying.
Here’s my list:
Arthur Morgan
John “Soap” Mactavish
Mateo
My dog in Minecraft

We’ve lost someone. Even if they weren’t real.

This and Frederick's Bishops' death were the most heartbreaking moments in this game.

I dont normally come back to these things or even comment on them, A short while ago in my work I had to tell a family that their son had died and that we couldnt help him, he was also in his early thirties. The first words said later by the father said was "why him and not me...." and it was impossible to not feel even a small part of that families grief with them. The words reminded me of this moment captured in a video game and I still wonder, who does decide such things, because it is not us, but I know I would do anything to give back that young man to his father, mother, sister and brother. Its tearing me apart that I couldnt.

After losing my one and only brother I could not think of anything to tell myself, every time I look at a picture of him I can only think of those words “he never got older, and here I am still..”

True story, I was fighting with my brother about something stupid and I played this mission the first time.not knowing what the ending was. My brother is my twin brother. When I got to the end I was mad at my brother still but the reality of Matteo's situation made me cry. Then my brother played it. We made up and we haven't ever fought over anything stupid again. I was a soldier, so was my brother. We were also young, with hard heads. It took this sad but beautiful moment to give us clarity.

For being only two missions long Avanti Savoia is one of the best story campaigns in BF1
