Vaughan Gething makes history as Wales’s first Black First Minister

Vaughan Gething has been announced as Wales’s next First Minister after winning the Welsh Labour leadership contest. He is the first black man to occupy the post after beating Jeremy Miles, the education minister, winning 51.7 per cent of the vote.

Mr Gething had served in the position of economy minister. In his acceptance speech, he said: “Today we turn a page in the book of our nation’s history. Not just because I have the honour of becoming the first black leader in any European country but because a generational dial has jumped too.”

He said, “Devolution is not something I have had to get used to or adapt to, or apologise for.”

I love all these ethnically diverse leaders who haven’t been voted in. Hope I’m wrong but I wonder how long it’ll be before they play the race card. The division in this country is being caused by the 100+ groups we have here.
