Ukraine's Frustratingly Long City: Kryvyi Rih 🇺🇦

🇺🇦 Doing the simplest of tasks like popping to the shop for a loaf of bread is no simple thing in Kryvyi Rih. That's because it's seemingly the longest city in the bloody world and going anywhere takes a bloody eternity and ends in sweaty frustration. However I was on a mission to seek out its Soviet past so I stopped complaining and set off on an adventure in search of an old dude with a Lada. Join me as we go back in time to good old Kryvyi Rig, Ukraine's most frustrating city.

Check out my other channel 'Daily Bald' for shorter videos.

no fancy cinematic or drone shots, no effects, completely raw and this guy's videos are still the best!

I'm living in Kriviy Rih for 15 years. All I can say is that this city depressing. Yep, it's big, but there's literally no places to go. It's full of industrial stuff, and as my folks say, it was the most popular place to find job back in Soviet Union. Now, it's not only foreigners, but also people from another cities of Ukraine rare here. Seeing this man's video, which I found by accident in my recommendation, makes me feel happy. No transitions, filters, drones, but still he founds beautiful in such a place. Watching this video makes me feel warm, recognizing my home, makes my eyes wet seeing people get to know about this city.

Thank you so much for making such a video.
Дякую! Спасибо!

Viktor agreeing to be your taxi driver and tour guide for a few hours with minimal questions asked is a legend.

One of the many things I enjoy about Bald is that he constantly repeats the name of the place he is visiting so you remember old Kryvyi Rih by the end of the video

The city is so long, because it was built gradually along the the line of the iron ore deposits. As each new mine was opened they built another centre to accommodate its workers and the city grew another few km.

I'm so sick of drones, timelapses, and awful royalty free music... just a bald guy, his book and a camera. Brilliant!

You don’t need an editor. You don’t need a cameraman. That’s the charm of your videos. I dig your art…warts and all…

"Are we going to be anywhere near the railway station?"
"No."

Remains on trolleybus for 1 hour

One day, Benjamin will stop making videos. And that's a particularly sad thing because I don't believe there will ever be a travel channel as engrossing as his. He has a certain genuineness to him that transcends language and culture, as evidenced by his countless positive interactions with locals. There will never be another Bald.

OMG! That was unexpected to suddenly see my native town on this channel. The buildings at the beginning (the one with mozaika and the tall one next to it) belonged to an R&D institute where I used to work when I lived in Kryvyi Rih. It was like flashbacks from a past life. Thanks man!

This channel is literally one of the only channels I watch on YouTube. It’s so raw. Bald makes me feel like I am really there with him on his adventures to places that an average traveler wouldn’t consider about going to. Anyone can travel to for example Paris, France.

I was born in this city but lived abroad for the past 20 years, it has been such a blast watching this video.
Kudos!

I'm so glad Bald's back. I wasn't getting the word "Soviet" enough in my life without him.

For those who were interested, Kryvyi Rih literally means “Crooked Horn”. And this is the way city shape really looks like

I'm from Kharkiv, Ukraine. I know a lot about life in the USSR and post-USSR. Still it's very interesting for me to watch your videos, how you explore our culture and historical heritage. You're one of a kind youtuber. Wish you good luck and a lot of fun in your further adventures. And thank you for the first-class content ♥♥♥

this channel is so good, because of Bald's sincerity. Most travel programs are scripted, subsidized, and have disgusting intros. With Bald you are sucked into the adventure and you see real people passing by. Thank you for doing this, you make places accessible for us

Viktor the driver makes a wise observation. A big part of prosperity is opportunity.

Whenever I'm a little down or depressed, I like to remember that somewhere out there is a bald British man running around, hopping on random trains and buses, roping random Ukrainian/Russian/Latin American people into driving him around some town I've never even heard of to check out some obscure mosaic, bus-stop or notorious cut-throat market.
Which he then films and uploads to the delight of millions around the world.

How can you be depressed knowing you life in a world with this in it? Well this, and cheese. I like cheese too.
