That is why they changed the name of the country to "Palestine". They took the name from the Philistine people who became extinct a thousand years earlier. When the British occupied the country in 1917 they debated about the name that should be given to it as a new separate political unit. The Arabs objected to the name "Palestine" on the grounds that there is no such entity at all and the country is southern Syria. When the name took root, they became "Palestinians"...
