So the difference in capacitance between a normal diode and a varicap diode is mainly the area A of the P/N junction ?

at time 3:54 on that diagram, doesn't that inductor and varactor diode form a 'tank circuit'?

One can make a circuit that varies between chosen extremes of capacitance.. used this for a tube amplifier for adjustable pick attack properties.
