CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Pike Bishop (William Holden) and his bunch hold up a bank.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
"If they move, kill 'em!" Beginning and ending with two of the bloodiest battles in screen history, Sam Peckinpah's classic revisionist Western ruthlessly takes apart the myths of the West. Released in the late '60s discord over Vietnam, in the wake of the controversial Bonnie and Clyde (1967) and the brutal "spaghetti westerns" of Sergio Leone, The Wild Bunch polarized critics and audiences over its ferocious bloodshed. One side hailed it as a classic appropriately pitched to the violence and nihilism of the times, while the other reviled it as depraved. After a failed payroll robbery, the outlaw Bunch, led by aging Pike Bishop (William Holden) and including Dutch (Ernest Borgnine), Angel (Jaime Sanchez), and Lyle and Tector Gorch (Warren Oates and Ben Johnson), heads for Mexico pursued by the gang of Pike's friend-turned-nemesis Deke Thornton (Robert Ryan). Ultimately caught between the corruption of railroad fat cat Harrigan (Albert Dekker) and federale general Mapache (Emilio Fernandez), and without a frontier for escape, the Bunch opts for a final Pyrrhic victory, striding purposefully to confront Mapache and avenge their friend Angel.

A classic film.
One of the best Westerns ever made....
Hell, let me amend that - one of the best films ever made.
Sam Peckinpah was a genius.

RIP, Bo Hopkins, one of the very few surviving cast members of this classic.

That scene when the bridge blew up and the men and horses fell into the water just took my breath away. I remember seeing this movie when it came out in 1969

I love how Pike and his men ride into town and help out a lady he bumps into as if they're honorable.

Simply one of the greatest westerns of all and one of my personal faves....it`s right up there with the likes of "The Good, the bad and the Ugly" and "Unforgiven"

IMHO, the best ever Western. Great directing, acting, storyline. William Holden played in Stalag 17 & Bridge Over River Kwai, two of the best war films ever. He also played in the World of Suzie Wong, one of the best romantic films of all time. An outstanding actor.

what I really like about this film, is that a lot of care went into this film, the camerawork, acting, costumes, art direction for the period 1913-14 and especially the sound.when I watch this film I have headphones on so I could hear every detail very clear, the sound of spurs, hoofbeats, gunshots ect.they sure made this film great by not making it looking like a made for t.v movie, movie of the week, , , thank you Lucien ballard for your beautiful cinematography.

Peckinpah showed the inherent cruelty in our species in an earlier seen with the kids tourturing a scorpion with red ants. Later we see the kids burning the ants and the spider. That's the last shootout scene in a nutshell.

"If they move, kill 'em" - DIRECTED BY SAM PECKINPAH. Has there ever been a better statement of purpose by a filmmaker?

Criticizing a Peckinpah film for having too much violence is like criticizing a boxing match for having too much punching.
