Beyond Sochi - From Sochi to Yerevan (2014)

Jelle visits Sochi, prior to the Olympic Games in 2014. His journey begins on the Black Sea, where there is still plenty to build for the games. In the hinterland of Sochi the Circassians live, a proud Caucasian people with a tragic history. Jelle visits a school where students have to learn a language with 72 letters in the alphabet. Jelle also talks to a horse keeper and he learns how it is to belong to a tribe, and he speaks to Syrian refugees who fled from Karachay-Cherkessia, hundreds of years ago. Are they coming back home now?

Jelle Brandt Corstius goes looking for answers in From Sochi to Yerevan. In this six-episode series he travels from Sochi in Russia through the Caucasus. Far from political power games and war intrigues, he visits remote mountain villages and meets proud peoples with a strong desire to be independent.
