The fact that joe, the most suicidal and unstable cop in the show, actually fought the release of death for a good while before finally accepting really hits hard. This man had actively craved the idea of his death bringing bonnie relief that she doesn't have to be with a cripple anymore and when it finally came, he immediately tried to stay alive before realizing this is what he's always wanted all along.
