As long as the limit screws are set properly it really dose not matter what kind of derailleur you use that chain won’t jump off

Its not about spoke damage, it's about locking the wheel and causing an accident. Adjust properly and remove.

Chain goes between spokes and cassette: wheel blocks -> risk life for looking cool, not worth 😂

In lowest gear I have to pedal 15 times to travel 5 feet. So it's not an issue.

Remove it, we ain’t dorks. We’ll just buy new wheels or die like men.

and the manufacturers dont even like them either, its there for legal reason, same reason why your bike comes with reflectors

It also helps to keep the chain lube and dirt from the sprockets from getting on the brake rotor, which is very important too; when that happens it shortens the life of the brake pads. Only a Dork would remove it!!!

After a life time of wrenching on bicycles in bike shops or big box stores ( only when I had to ) we used to call them pie pans because most of them in yesteryear were made from tin

My canyon spectral came with one on the bike I was told not to take it off but it broke off itself and my cassette was so relieved no issues whatsoever

That is until your derailleur gets bumped and you shift your chain into the spokes .

Rocky Mountain must trust their derailleurs because my Rocky Mountain never came with one, and it is a great derailleur because my chain has only popped once whereas my friends with other brands (ie. Trek and Norco) have had their chains pop thousands of times.

Happened to my son. chain stuck between wheel and gears.
Two broken spokes, teared out spokes openings, not to say he almost felt down on a road.
I am not sure this diak can save you anyway. I just have set the limit screws so that first gear will never be used in a future.

Yep I recommend if u have a cheap bike keep it on I've had it shift off several times and catch causing the derailleur to get ripped off it's mount

The plastic dork disk is useless. I had my chain jump over the low gear ripping the plastic and the wheel pulled the chain into the wheel causing costly damage.

some (newer?) cassettes have pins at the back, which are intended to serve the same purpose like a dork disc does.
