Are Highlands just a status symbol of the farm??

Beautiful snow came the last few days on the farm. Recently I had a comment that highlands were nothing more than just a status symbol for the farm. And Powerline work continues.

To me it's a preference of animal breed. Not a status symbol. I love your Highlands. Thanks for sharing. Blessings 🙏🫶❤️🫶🙏

We got into Highlands in 2019 as well and love them. The G-wagon of the farm though? LOL prices being asked now for them are pretty wild.

I hadn’t watched/followed any breed until the last few years and I’m partial to the Highlands overall. I wouldn’t consider them a status symbol though, but I’m not taking the $$ into consideration.
Congratulations on the new family member coming, Rhett!

Good Day! Never thought to consider owning those majestically beautiful Highlanders as simply a farm status symbol, LOL. Beautiful shots all around, and thanks for the exposition!

I always enjoy your videos, Rhett. I hope that you will someday be able to show some of your cattle. I used to show Polled Herefords, and then I showed Charolais for many years. It's a lot of work, but a lot of fun also. It's very rewarding to see cattle that you have bred and raised compete and sometimes win in the show ring. Good luck to you!!

So awesome in the snow!!! We have lots more snow than you all. lol lol (KY) Wow, yes it will be good when they finish. Look at that beautiful black calf. Sweet little girl on her sled! This is amazing to see them do this. That takes some skill to string that line!!! Amazing. Oh another baby??? So excited for you all. That is so nice he is sharing your little bull at a Senior Citizen home. Hallie's baby is so pretty!!! I do not agree with the statement. I love the breed. lol lol I know Highlands hang onto the calves a long time!!! lol All the best.

I started watching you because of Chad Doss and I will never have cows or live on a farm but I love watching your videos of your highlands. 🙂❤️

I don’t think they are a status symbol. They look unique but can still be “beef”. Enjoy them. I love them. ❤

I live in a small valley in Mid Missouri, it get really cold. I picked highlands so they could overwinter without freezing to death. I do have an Angus Cow (she has made some good meat for us) and she hides in the sheds during winter. For me it was practical.

I imagine your Highland livestock were happy to be in the elements! I think the weather on the actual "Highlands", from which this breed hails, is probably much worse than what they experience here! As for "status", a farm near me had a few Belted Galallways and I would -- full stop -- have a few of those if for nothing else than pasture ornaments (if I had a farm, which I don't)! Dittos those adorable little Valais Blacknose sheep with the black knee patches!

I was amazed to see a highland steer go for $4500 at a TN auction.. I turned to the guy next to me and said "how can you make any $ selling that beef". He laughed and said "They aren't buying for beef - most likely a wedding venue buying just to have around". That made some sense, but until the prices drop when all the venue's and non beef buyers are stocked they just aren't economic. Not sure if that makes them a G wagon. Highlands are better to look at. All that said, my dad was a butcher. When I was 12 for Fathers Day we had a cookpout. He put a 2 lb porterhouse on my plate. No room for potato salads or any sides. Took me 2 hours to eat it all, but I have been chasing the taste of that steak for 50 years. Someday I might get a highland just to grow my own and see how they taste. Also I have a lot of land to be cleared. This breed might be helpful in clearing out some woods.

I tell u one thing u have beautiful fold of highland. I'm wouldn't mind having cows one day. For me I rather pay top dollar for highlands than a breed of cows I don't. In my area there aren't any highlands. But I went to a fair out state and saw one in person and it was cool.
