I love the 2003 anime's psychologically dark moments like this. Makes the characters feel more real.

honestly my favourite part is the buckets of blood. I think tuckers scene could've used something like that, as a sign depression or trauma

One big difference here vs Brotherhood is how Hughes WASN'T in the Ishval war with Mustangー while in Brotherhood Hughes was in the front lines together with him. I wonder if this was intentional with 2003's writing too with Mustang being su1cidal because of regret, but not in Brotherhood where he was more optimistic to become Fuhrer.
