The most impotant thing - this beautiful dog did not burn up trapped in a cage in this fire. Great job by the neighbor. Sorry for this tough loss but my sense is from this point on it only gets better for them.

My mom went to high school with Gil and was good friends with him back then (still friends now.) He's a retired (obviously) Navy Seal with a purple heart and medal of valor from Vietnam. My mom has told me stories about him since I can remember. I knew his dog was safe but I didn't know that his neighbor had saved him. So many pets lost their lives in this fire. Just breaks my heart.

So encouraging to hear these wonderful stories of rescues!! I'm a Michigander with dogs and cats I know what these rescues mean to their owners!! What a Brave and thoughtful young man!!!! I hope more people did this. That's always the problem with keeping your animals inside they are trapped!!!
