I had an experience in Dallas in 1974 with a woman with 'lying eyes.' Married, rich guy, she's 24... I was the boy over in the cheatin' side of town. I think of her every time I hear the song. The lyrics nailed this woman. I had known but didn't date her in college and hadn't seen her in a few years. She had found out her "security" had come with a cost. She wanted her cake and to eat it too. It lasted about 6 months. Beautiful girl but I'm glad I didn't get tied up with her. She was never going to be happy.

What I find fascinating about Lyin Eyes is that the verses are sung from a third person point of view (she gets up and pours herself a strong one) but the chorus is in second person ( you can’t hide your lyin eyes). The last verse switches to second person (you sure know how to arrange things). That ties everything together. It shows that the cheating woman has done all this before, and she previously did it to the singer. That’s how he knows about everything that is happening with her current sugar daddy.
