SENJA: Roadtrip on the SCENIC ROUTE and a hike to HESTEN and SEGLA mountain //EPS.9 EXPEDITION NORTH

The fairytale island Senja is as well called Norway in miniature because so many of the nation´s highlights can be seen in this single unique area: High mountains, fjords, valleys, colourful villages and bays. Join our ride over Senja's senic route - and a hike to the peak of Hesten mountain from where you have an amazing view on Segla mountain, that is as well known as the "sail of Senja".

They call Senja two faced: gentle, green and welcoming on the landward side, and raw, brutal and furiously stormy on the oceanside.
We arrived in Gryllefjord with the ferry and stayed close to Hamn I Senja. From there we were able to explore the island Senja on the scenic route: along rough mountains, through dark tunnels and across beautiful birch woodlands.
But our highlight was a hike to the top of Hesten mountain from the trailhead in the village Fjordgard, to enjoy the view on the iconic Segla "sail of Senja".
And finally I was able to stay up long enough at night (due to the bites of flies that attacked my ankle on the hike on Hesten and made my foot swell terribly) to experience the famous midnight sun!
If you want to enjoy this spectacle of nature too, join my journey to one of my favorite places in Norway!

Happy New Year to everyone!
Thanks for joining the journey here on my channel in 2020 - it has been a very exciting year for me with starting to produce content for Youtube in the first Corona Lockdown.
I am so happy and thankful about this great community here, all your lovely comments and every single one of you who is following my trips and helping this awesome community of travelers and likeminded people to grow.
I am looking very forward to 2021 - with more journeys and hopefully all of you on board for the next adventures!

Hello, beautiful landscapes, spectacular images.
the music is beautiful but not as beautiful as the landscapes.
A greeting from Barcelona.

What a beautiful area to ride. So far north and yet weather so mild this time of year.

Oh, what a gorgeous video! I live in northern Norway, so I know the landscape is beautiful, but as an amateur photographer myself, I think you are being too modest and humble about your photo- and videography (and editing) skills. Filming or photographing gorgeous landscapes does not automatically make gorgeous videos or photos :)

I've watched several of your Northern Norway videos, and they are really inspiring. It's snowing in Tromsø today, and my trusty old motorcycle is winter hibernating in my mother's garage hundreds of kilometers from here :(

I have been to Senja, but I want to kind of do what you did; take a few days there, camp out, ride around and see the different parts of the island.

You are a great ambassador and promoter on your journeys, thank you!

Happy New Year Leah,
LG

very nice :), And a very common mistake from tourists coming to Norway. They are not prepeared for the though hikes, and weather. Shoes and warm clothes the most frequent issue. And, they get lost when trying to take shortcuts... Good to see that you made it :).

Wow! How beautiful is Senja especially without the clouds and rain! The views from the top of the mountain were stunning and a worthy reward for the effort of the climb.
I had a similar poor foot ware experience while on a bike trip in Lech, Austria. An all fours scramble to the summit in t shirt jeans and trainers with a carrier bag for my map and water. Lots of funny looks from people more appropriately attired. Going up was fine but coming down not so!
It’s been a pleasure following your journeys this year Lea. Best wishes for 2021.

I agree with you about staying and exploring Senja, it is so beautiful. I love the history of each town you visit. I prefer to stay on the back roads and visit the small towns when I traveled in the U.S.A. The people are so much nicer and the food is so much better. I found the restaurants did not cook all frozen foods (YECK!). The scenery is so much prettier too! I kind of figured your traveling companion would change his mind about the hike as he saw the spectacular and breathtaking views get better as you climbed higher. Thank you so much for sharing. God Bless and protect you.
