Great character, great films, great Michael Caine! A worthy contemporary of Mr Bond 👓👍

Wow! You are going to work here, Doug! Harry Palmer! I just love Michael Caine. He is such a distinctive 'character lead.' Do you recall his two returns to Harry Palmer in the Nineties? I was looking up his story on Wikipedia, and somehow I missed that curtain call. I just recalled the three entries from the Sixties. Still, All the hallmarks of wonderful espionage thrillers that decade was known for. A part of me wonders what would have happened had this character continued for Caine in the Seventies. I think the era of those thrillers was passing by 1970, so the only survivor of the genre would be Bond--partly because Bond is not just part of the genre, but the archtypal male power fantasy, so it could stretch appeal beyond the spy genre that spawned it. Characters like Flint, Helm, Palmer, et al, didn't have the lasting power they needed in subsequent decades. It doesn't matter--I just loved them all and they are a perfect snapshot of the era. And we'd still enjoy seeing Caine and Connery together in The Man Who Would Be King. (Epic team-up, that!) Thanks for sharing, Doug!
