Thinking of cruising the Kimberley or steaming to the Great Barrier Reef? The Horizon Vision 68 is a proven long range motor yacht designed and specified with this in mind. 'Sandalera' as she is known has completed this journey numerous times. Her condition is magnificent, in fact it's hard to believe she has ever steamed beyond Rottnest Island.

She was delivered new into Australia for her current owner in 2008 and while one would assume she is 68FT long, overall she is 72FT.

If you're not familiar with the Horizon range, the Vision series represent the largest internal volume vessel for their size. At the time this model also had the widest beam. Living areas and cabins on three levels are enormous. Space has not been compromised anywhere onboard. The living area on her main deck is open plan and ideal for entertaining. This incorporates lounging, formal dining and galley.

Ahead of the galley, stairs lead you down to the accommodation deck. Her owner chose the three cabin version which enables a full beam master stateroom - that's 6.2m wide! Features include hull windows, dressing table which could also be used as your office or library, plus a beautifully styled ensuite with his and hers vanity and an opulent shower recess.

To port is a guest cabin with two single berths. This cabin shares the day head. The bow cabin is by no means compromised and includes a queen size island berth and a beautifully styled ensuite not dissimilar to that in the owners cabin.

A rear staircase provides access to the flybridge, alternatively you can take the stairs from the main saloon directly up into the wheelhouse. If you're at sea, this is a great option so you don't have to leave the safety of the cabin in foul weather.

The wheelhouse is large enough to be its own cabin. A leather lounge wraps around what could be either a dining or chart table. This also lowers to create another double bed if the need arises. To starboard is a small powder room, so no need to go all the way down stairs when nature calls.

The helm station is equipped with an extensive array of electronic navigation and communications equipment. The skipper has his own leather bucket seat within arms length of the dash. Vision from the bridge is pretty good however a Yacht Controller enables you to walk around the vessel while maintaining total control of the thristers and main drives from literally any point onboard. This is ideall when berthing in tight quarters. Absolutely no blind spots!

This leads me to the engine room and drives. If you new no better, you could be forgiven for assuming Sandalera was a new boat. Her engine room is immaculate. Featuring two 1000HP Caterpillar C18's, two Onan gensets, Trac Digital stabilisers and hydraulics to operate bow and stern thrusters plus the windlass. Access around the engines is pretty good. I'm a little under six foot tall and there is still plenty of head room.

The engine room is accessed via a water tight door from the swim platform. As you step through this door there is a bathroom to port with toilet and shower, a crew cabin, laundry and work bench. I would not be unhappy if I was relegated to the crew quarters. After all, this area is far bigger than most cabins the average local boatie is familiar with, and it's airconditioned.

Sandalera comes with a bunch of spares for long range cruising and her owner would be happy to share his knowledge with any buyer wanting to take on a trip over the top of Australia.
