Your drywall / sheetrock man can either make or break your trim job! Checking out some of the frustrations that we have encountered over the years when it comes to installing trim, more specifically baseboard, and how we have worked with our drywall man to solve these issues. We build mostly rustic style homes with stained wood trim, and therefore we usually don't have the luxury of a caulk joint to hide gaps between the trim and drywall. It is very important to us that the bottom edge of the drywall is nearly perfect especially at corners, where we are joining our baseboard to another piece. #Building #Better #Homes

I have used clear acrylic caulk successfully on stained wood trim. Trim is sanded, stained and a coated with a couple coats of oil modified poly then installed. After installation nail hole are filled, joints are caulked and the a final coat of poly applied.

I really like your content. Couldn't agree morrie with all your drywall points, especially since I've been a trim carpenter for the last 30 years. Having said that, you'd be dreaming if you think you could get any, and I mean ANY drywallers in this area to even consider the things you are getting done. Seriously. There is already a shortage of all subs here, none will take the time to do anything extra, more money or not.

Your attention to detail is important and refreshing. No excuse for sloppy workmanship, unfortunately too many guys just want to get it done, get paid and move on. You and your brother are doing it right ! Blessings to you and your business growth.

Absolutely right. The mistakes you make on the first day or a remodel will come back to bite you on the last day.

I'm a builder from Massachusetts and I've been in the business for a little over 20 years. You guys are great and the love you have for building shows and I've learned some things for sure. My son watches your content as well. Thank you for your content and the absolute care and attention to detail! A lot of builders don't take the extra time and care you do, even on the smallest of fixes!!

We cut a channel into our studs for our baths, we dont do those clips. We dont use drywall (we call gyprock) in wet areas but use villaboard, which sits down over the lip of the bath preventing water ingress to timber. Gyprock goes to 10mm frim the floor we use glue on all our skirting amd we live with the 2 mm on the externals. Plasterers will charge more to take away their rubbish because they are screwed down in the price sp we provide bin space for them, as long as they clean up and put all their rubbish in the bin.

A lot of the better finish guys around my neck of the woods cope the base and crown, it's very hard to get a drywaller/finisher to fill the bottom edge of the Sheetrock. I did enjoy the video though, it's good to see finishers that actually care about their work.

Having to fill in the bottom is what you get for installing drywall the wrong way around. Drywall boards are meant to be hung vertically so there is no bevelled edge on the bottom. That's also why they come in different lengths - you buy the length that matches your wall height.

Carpenters blame the hangers. Hangers blame the framers. 😑

Here in NZ we just order drywall with one tapered edge for the walls, and the other edge square. The square edge without a taper on the top sheet goes into the ceiling, and the square edge on the bottom sheet goes to the floor. Once the drywall is up the plasterers come in for a few hours to tape and do a single coat in the tight corners(behind doors etc), but leave all the rest. Then we can put doors in and do all the finishing lines same day. We drywall ourselves (builders) one day and then straight into doors/skirting/arcs the next day. Our plasters have no problems plastering down into our skirting. Makes the whole process smooth and you dont have to leave site for a few days while plasterers are in.

Cut Small Blocks that are the same thickness of the Drywall, here in New Zealand our baseboards (skirting trim) is the same thickness as the drywall (obviously where it isnt tapered) so I can just take an offcut of baseboard and cut it into small packers that are small enough to slide into that gap between the floor and the drywall edge (against framing bottomplate), This packs the bottom of skirting or baseboard the exact thickness of the drywall, I put them at intervals of about 400-600mm. saving you heaps of time as you can do it as you install baseboards, plasterer doesnt need to put a lick of mud on bottom of all walls, mud drying etc etc... This in turn also helps your plasterer bill and also helps to stop baseboard kicking in when carpet layer is kicking carpet into walls.
