94 yr old Maria makes tagliatelle with tomato sauce! | Pasta Grannies

This is a simple, but so good recipe.
94 year old great-grandmother Maria is from Marche where she and her husband started a winery called Cantina Bastianelli. It's flourishing, just like its founder! Here she is, making tagliatelle with tomato sauce. The addition of duck eggs gives a richer flavour but of course hen eggs are fine too.
For the pasta: 400g 00 flour (maybe a bit more if using ducks eggs which tend to be larger) 4 duck eggs
For the tomato sauce; 400ml passata or kilo of fresh (ripe) toms put through a food mill. 1 fresh onion, 5 garlic cloves, 1 carrot, two celery sticks (either add whole and remove, or chop finely), salt and a handful of basil leaves (remove before serving). Parmigiano to serve

Imagine being able to stand next to your great grandmother and watch while she cooks these traditional dishes...what a gift!

In addition to their skills and sympathy, always to be admired is the temperament of these Italian grandmothers who, even at their age, have a temperament like a young girl (maybe even more !). 😊💕

What a beautiful soul! Her love for her family, her willingness to teach her great grandchildren, her use of the pasta to get every drop from the pan!! Thank for sharing her story with us! Brava, Maria!!

What a wonderful find ! She was delightful 95 but still 25 in her heart and whipped up lunch for her great-grandchildren like it was nothing !!

She reminds me of my Granny. I learned everything I know about cooking from watching her well into her 80’s when she passed. Everyone says I’m a great cook. The credit is all hers. 🙏🏼💙

I ricordi di Maria scaldano il cuore e riempiono di gioia e benessere l'intera giornata. Bravi ragazzi, la condivisione di queste storie e delle tradizioni italiane vi fanno merito. Evviva bisnonna Maria!!!

My great-aunts were like this in their mid 90s. Once I asked my favorite, Arduina, which changes she'd seen that she liked the most. I expected her to say cars or planes or tv, but instead she said it was being able to throw away her black kerchief and clothes and go and get her hair done once a week, even if her husband didn't like it! That vibrancy, humor, wit, love of life are qualities so many of these women of a certain age share, and yet they had such incredibly hard lives, and experienced such tragedy, sorrow, war, even hunger and disease without benefit of modern medicines. I can't explain it, but I know we'll lose people who are irreplaceable when they're gone.

Another gem! Maria, like so many of these elegant ladies, speaks of her life of sacrifices and shrugs them off. Such strong women. The great grandchildren have not idea how fortunate they are to have such a skilled teacher in the their great grandmother.

She is fabulous. What a pistol. So lively and honest. She will never forget her daughter-in-law’s failed passata. Brava.

Little Ilara reminds me of myself at her age, I used to watch my mother make homemade pasta, watching every detail as my mom rolled out the pasta sheets, on the wooden board my father made for her.I’d take a piece and eat it raw too 😂 We look alike too. Goosebumps and bittersweet watching this. ❤ My mother Giuseppina, would have been 89 last month ❤

Dialect from Marche must be one of the most happy-go-lucky sounding of all of Italy.

I already lost both of my grandmothers and there is not a single day that goes by, on which I don't wish I could hug them firmly in my arms and thank them for all they have done for me...😢😢❤❤
