The death toll in the Philippines caused by Typhoon Rai has risen to at least 375 after the storm left a trail of destruction in central and southern provinces late last week. Al Jazeera’s Jamela Alindogan is the first journalist to reach the remote Dinagat islands, one of the country’s hardest-hit provinces.

I salute this media personnel even the farthest province of Dinagat islands she traveled just to get the news and informed the people around the world that this place really needed help, thank you for exposing the situation of the people and the national gov. slow action, its obvious that the gov.never allocated budget before disaster hit the province even they predicted the center of the storm will hit this place, it should be plan ahead but if u have weak and lazy leader help is very slow, people must think twice this coming election not to vote incompetent leader

Thank you for the information but the report sounds so much like oratory. It's also incorrect that the residents have not seen a government official in San Jose - maybe what she meant was a national government official. Local government officials in Dinagat are working non stop. The reporter wouldn't have been able to go to San Jose on her own without LGU coordination. By December 18, national government officials have visited Dinagat to speak with the governor and local officials. They wouldn't have been able to personally go to all the barangays. What the reporter got correct was that local officials are doing all they can with the resources they have. To the international community who saw this report, the most important message is Dinagat Islands needs help and the local officials can be trusted to facilitate the help to everyone in the island because EVERYONE, including government workers were severely affected - devastated would be more fitting.

There have been news about the mayor in Surigao City who have been suspended due to lack of action. Where are they when they are needed most by the people who elected them? What the heck is the purpose why they ran for those respective positions where they should serve the people wholeheartedly? Perhaps these days it maybe is just about the money issues why they're after positions in a government.
Shame on them!

i know the government act very slow in relief operations but is not just one area got hit by the typhoon... if you can see in other video, the government is doing everything they can... the president went straight to the place got hit by the typhoon and giving out some relief goods...
now is election time in the philippines, is time for them to act fast but sad to say one of the presidential candidate, act very slow they just asking for donation now...that should done by earlier days before the typhoon hits the philippines... while the other presidential candidate, use this as a challenge to help those who affected... why they don't just act fast, they don't need that challenge...while some of them it seems they don't care....
