If you get hit by Bubble Man at the right time when you touch the boss door, it will glitch out and show a part of Wily Stage 4. You cannot climb the ladder, though.

Some more insight on the boss room door glitch:

The boss room doors are triggered by getting close enough to the edge of the screen, not necessarily by touching the door itself. In MM2, they use the same flag that tells the game to use the door transition in the boss room in order to lock the screen in place (since the engine hadn't been designed with a flag that simply locks horizontal scrolling), so if anything happens that causes Mega Man to get too close to the edge of the screen, the transition gets triggered and he moves to the next screen. Due to MM2's wonky collision detection, any number of things can cause this to happen in a boss room, the two most common of which are getting hit while next to and facing away from the door, and using Item 1 in just the right spot near the door.

As to why it loads the stage it does, the explanation is surprisingly simple: in order to save on space, each of the Wily Fortress stages occupies the same level slot as one of the main stages, and the first screen of the Wily stage is placed immediately after the boss room for the stage slot it occupies. So when you're going through Wily Fortress proper, you're really going through the first six stages in sequence, just with different art, music, and boss data loaded, and starting at the screen immediately beyond the regular stage's boss room. However, when you use the door glitch, because you're not accessing the stage properly, it keeps the original stage's art and music, and nothing happens when you reach the fortress stage's boss room as the appropriate boss pointer hasn't been loaded.

As for which Wily stage corresponds to which normal stage, the answer can be found, interestingly enough, in the weapon select. Probably to keep things organized for the development team, the weapons in the weapon select are arranged in the same order as their respective stages' internal level order. So, for instance, Heat Man would be level 00, Air Main would be 01, Wood Man 02, and so on. Looking at that, the Wily stages you get match up nicely with these level slots, so by using the glitch in Heat Man's stage, you get Wily Fortress 1. Air Man gets you Wily 2, Wood Man gets you Wily 3, and so on. As might be expected, you get much different results if you try the glitch in Metal Man and Flash Man's stages, which have no corresponding Wily stages - namely, you get a random, garbled mess, likely because the game, now going out of stage bounds, starts loading in non-stage data into stage memory.

You should probably do the next couple mega man games in a single episode. They're surprisingly well made. Though 3 has a fun glitch that lets you mess up Gemini Man's stage.

You can actually go to Wily 3 and 4 by using the item 1 near the boss door glitch on bubble man and woodman but like how airman is there is no boss programed at the end of wily 3 so your stuck. And the bubble man one just gets you stuck on the first screen on wily 4 so your screwed and have to reset

Nice video, as usual I'll probably try a few of these myself. Any tips in finding glitches in 2D games?
