Why The Office Australia Will NEVER Work

The Office Australia airs in October, and it's really exciting. A lot of people have been very sceptical about it, but I think there's a chance it can work. It stars Felicity Ward in the main role.

I agree that Australians will always unfavourably compare it to the US counterpart. If there was only a British version we might get behind ours more because there's more of a competitive spirit that we want to show the UK how we can one-up them, whereas Australians tend to accept the idea that US entertainment is on a pedestal.

I'll give it a go but I don't have high hopes for it, mainly because I spent a good 15 years doing casual work as an extra on film and TV, and in my experience, there are very few Australian directors of comedy who aren't very easily amused. The Office is a smart show with smart writers and smart direction, they need to aim high with the writing and keep performances subtle.

Odd, the cast looks good, Felicity Ward is ... a great comedic actress, maybe having seen the UK version first, I found the US version a bit much, went for far too long, jim and pam had all the chemistry of damp paper, and Steve carrol can't not over act which is hit n miss.

UK version a tight 18 episodes with a special or two. US version 4500 episodes or something? Still didn't the first season of the USA office use UK storylines or plots initially then had to go its own way?

Still, let's give it a chance. Though the now Femail foil character looks a bit shakey.
