The more serum you pump, the more purple triangle go up - when triangle full then you kinda no feel good, voices speak, and you can no longer inject serum - you must use orange machine to cleanse to fix purple triangle

The game heavily reminds me of "In Time" where all those people had time and time was a currency for living.

Not sure if IGP figured this out after the vid but for anyone else confused about his being blocked from taking serums, here's what I remember. The triangle next to his health and stamina fills up every time he takes a serum, you need those stations that purge your infection meter or you'll stay blocked off. There's a bit of time management/serum usage that needs to be kept in mind while out exploring. A slow burn and exploration is the ideal so you can find little stations along the way. At least you don't have the timer counting down while you're in base, that was a minor annoyance but I think it's nice they nixed that.

Personally, I haven't seen a game this uniquely dark and captivating since Dishonored. Grungy, biomechanical, disease-addled, and you're just thrown into the fray the moment the game starts. Absolutely love it and I'm like 6 minutes in!

Tips (if interested): the main couple of thing i have learned form playing and watching others
1: make sure you know what each weapons damage type is for example the dullers or zombie like infected humans (which ever you wanna call them) very weak to slashing so that's why when stabbing them with the spear it dose almost nothing if that happens switch weapons and hit them with something else try to figure out what dose the most damage against each enemy type (similar to what a previous comment had mentioned)
2: its very important when taking on bosses or bigger monsters to be very prepared a good way of preparing is making some serums that don't increase your time but just increase your defense like the one you noticed in the video there slashing defense increase (most enemy's early on use this damage type that's why you get it early) the reason why making some serums not increase your time is because its a balancing act with the infection level if you hit 100 in it you can no longer take serums (as you found out and others have mentioned) an example of what I am talking about is i have made a serum that increases defense and health to make me last longer I never used it until fighting the boss which was very helpful also while fighting it the pain killers are best used at this time as there health restoration works on a percentage health heal when the slowly tick up is good for long combats like boss match with the health increasing serums

3 try to take the bare minimum amount of serums I had the same problem where i wanted to take all of them at once left base and while out i couldn't freely use any other types as you get blocked out by the infection cap plus you can find those absorbers around the maps some time and if you find it after taking all your serums you could very well waist all your time and any abilities its usually better to wait until you have a minute or 2 left and then take another time increasing one from what i have found to be more or less the best time to plane around without wasting to much serum

Also, it's such a true gamer move to acknowledge the "purple" icon on the serums and not notice that it's filling up the bar on the bottom left and ask "why can't i use the serum"

So, the purple skull icon is the curse effects which need to be cleared using the absorbers, I guess each serum has the positive sides and the negative sides so you have to balance out what to use and when to use it. As for the combat, If I had to assume, different weapons deal different types of damage. Spear is piercing and machete is slashing. That's why it looked like you couldn't deal damage to the dullers or whatever they were called.

Also, there's a movie about time being our life called Out of Time. Basically, time is currency in that one. An indie dev made a low res game about it years ago, but I forget what it's called. 8bit Ryan played it once in a 3 Random Games video.
