Summary of the Parthenon

Ladies and gentlemen,

Today, I’d like to share some key facts about the Parthenon, one of the most iconic structures of ancient Greece.

The Parthenon, located on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, was built between 447 and 432 BC during the Golden Age of Athens under Pericles. This temple was dedicated to Athena Parthenos, the city's patron goddess.

An exemplary piece of Doric architecture, the Parthenon features a rectangular floor plan with a series of columns. Inside, it once housed a massive statue of Athena made of gold and ivory, crafted by the sculptor Phidias.

Over time, the Parthenon has served as a church, a mosque, and has endured significant damage. Despite this, it remains a symbol of ancient Greek civilization and architectural brilliance.

Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Parthenon attracts millions of visitors each year, standing as a testament to ancient Greek art and architecture.
