They use Gavinitis as a derogatory term. They think we should just put up with MS, should just accept our fate. Having patients who advocate for themselves, who argue for slightly greater risk tolerance, who want to fight to overcome "their fate" - it bothers them. There are those who believe we are making a nuisance of ourselves and suffer from Gavinitis, that we are given unrealistic hope and expectations by following "our leader" without questioning.

Where as the truth is we advocate for ourselves because, as we find time and time again, there's no-one else going to advocate for us.

Every MS patient who decides to try to take the reins, to try to flip the pyramid, to try to push for every possible solution - every MS patient who refuses to be a "victim of MS" - is fighting the good fight. And we will win because it matters more to us.

But they can call it Gavinitis if they wish.

I have heard of smouldering MS and PIRA, but never the term Gavinitis!
