The triangle XYZ is right-angled at X and XP is perpendicular to YZ.
|YP|=4,|PZ|=8, and |PX|=k.
Find the value of k
Using the Pythagoras Theorem, we get three equations for the three sides of the triangle, this was only possible due to the given right angles in this problem.
We add the first two equations and then using the third one, we simplify the given equation to obtain the vlaue of k, the unknown.
