Really appreciating these comments, yall! Giving me some more understanding of people’s use cases for the stomp.

One thing I wanted to note-a goal I always have in mind when making content for this channel is getting great sounds on a minimal budget. It’s part of being an “everyday church guitarist”: working on an “everyday” budget! The stomp is awesome! My point here is (a) gaining understanding for myself and (b) showing a lot of this stuff can be done at a lower price point.

A church guitarist needs to be ready for anything because we are basically a cover band. At church I've been asked to play Electric, Acoustic, Bass, and Mandolin... The stomp allows me to have all of it in 1 piece of gear. I've also been asked to have tremolo, chorus, phaser/flanger, more ambience (more verb or delay), a different "dirtiness", and the one thing you missed was that it also has a noise gate and a tuner built in. Those also make it worth the cost. Then you add presets which are priceless...

I'd think of it this way: There are 8 slots available outside of just the tuner and noise gate. Lets say you buy a cheaper (1) Reverb, (2) Delay, (3) Amp SIM, (4) Chorus, (5) Trem, (6) Boost, (7) Drive, (8) Drive, (unassigned) Tuner, (unassigned) Noise gate... Lets say these items cost you $50 a piece... That's $500 total. Now add all the patch cables needed at a cheap $5 each. 9x5=$45... lets round up so its easy... $550 total. Now you need a power supply for ALL THAT STUFF and we will just follow the same price point of a cheap $50 (likely with noise and I'm not sure what power supply will have 10 outs)... so we are now at $600 total but the footprint to deal with all that will require a pedalboard which was not needed with just 1 pedal that fit in your gig bag. So let's add another $50... we are at $600 total for the cheapest rig possible... or for the current price today on Sweetwater you can get an HX Stomp for $600 new. An item that professionals have sworn by for years.

But, as you mentioned, many use it as an added part to the board. For me, this is a backup. I've had all sorts of things fail while playing. This allows the show to go on...

I hope this comes across as speaking logically and not as snarky. Part of this comment is me just talking it out to make sure that my choices (and the choices of many of my friends) make sense... which I think it does. Blessings and thanks for the thought provoking video.

Great video! That’s why I never purchased the HX stomp. I knew I would, in the end, just use it as a reverb/delay pedal. Plus I don’t need the extra distraction of all the options. In the end I bought the UA audio del verb. I’m happy I did.

I use my HX stomp as additional recording inputs in my home studio, as a re-amp box, and as a pedal platform/MIDI clock for live gigs. I guess I also use it by itself for jam sessions. The flexibility of the thing in such a small form factor is what makes it so compelling to me. I want a second one.

Thanks for explaining many alternate options! I use the HX stomp with other drive pedals because of its compact size. It helps me make Pedaltrain Metro 16 size pedalboard with my other favorite pedals (overdrives, compressor, and EQ) and complement the rest (amp & cab sims, modulation, delay and reverb) thanks to its small size!

When I had an HX stomp on my board, my primary uses were the following: cab and IR blocks, reverb, modulation, delay, drive, and clean boost. I then utilized the FX loop on it for the other pedals on my board. Not to mention the ability to connect external controls via MIDI or the expression jacks. I did not do this, but you can also connect extra buttons onto the unit to be able to control the other blocks within the chain. The HX Stomp current DSP allows for up to 8 blocks, though depending on what FX you choose, it may limit you. For me, as someone who tends to create presets for my live use, the HX stomp provided me with all the FX I would need for an all-in-one board that could also integrate with my other pedals (i.e. EH Cathedral, Boss RV6, Fulldrive 3, and 2 expression pedals. For what I was using it for and for how many presets I was using live, I could not get the same amount of value by getting separate pedals with different interfaces I'd have to learn. I would likely have to do some serious MIDI mapping to get the same preset functionality between pedals with even just 2 or 3 separate pedals. The HX stomp allows for a trouble free interface with consistent control between the various FX.

I've used the Stomp many times as a standalone/all in one on a Sunday. Noise gate, compressor, 2 drives, a boost, one mod effect, delay, reverb, amp, and cab, in that order. It has just enough DSP and blocks to do it all, if you use the amp/cab combo block. And it sounds great doing it. With a $20 2 button aux switch I have the control I need over those effects. That's $620 (if you buy it all brand new, ) for an all-in rig, no other pedals needed. It even has a balanced output, so you can go direct TRS-to-XLR out to a mixer, without a direct box. The real advantage, is being able to go from that rig/preset, to something completely different for a different gig/song style/whatever, with a button press.

Picked up a used unit for 450 ish to run wet effects and modulation, eq, digital capo, and tuner. Pretty much an 8-9 (including tuner) in one unit. For the size, versatility, and ability to use it in so many different ways, it’s a no brainer for those of us who love analog drives with the hx effects.

I bought mine. TRIED to find good tutorials. No luck finding a BASIC simple to understand tutorial. Put on closet shelf and went back to my Line 6 XT Live and never looked back.

I was kinda out when you put the rv500 and dl4 on here. The footprint is massive for those two pedals alone and you're stuck with those pedals.

Currently I'm using a transparent drive into the stomp- tubescreamer (100$ value) into my amp (600-1000$ value) into my fx loop - Delays, reverbs in the chain- back into my cab and then another reverb in the stomp (100$ value) my stomp is also sending midi notes to my time based effects. The versatility of the stomp is just not replacable for me or a lot of others. And if I decide I want to swap an amp, free, it I decide I want to add a new reverb or overdrive, free. If I decide to use a different guitar, it's as easy as swapping the preset and my drives and tone are perfect.

Stomp is honestly the most vital piece of gear I have and would start with it from scratch everytime

Why do I use the hx stomp? Very easy answer. Presets and Snapshots and as my midi brain controlling all my other gear or tempo sync. The stomp is a sound design box that has everything you need! With the editor i can quickly make my setlist for the next gig.

So which of these other options does mods, delay, verb, amps, compression, drives, and other various effects at the same time? I’m sorry, but anyone who’s had to use the HX Stomp as your whole rig knows how valuable the pedal is. I also can use it for bass, acoustic, or even keys if you really have to. And the reason I would use it in a full pedal board, is it allows me to have everything I need all in one board. It can be a back up when everything goes wrong, it can be huge tone shaper with its EQ abilities, it can add whatever wacky effects I need, and fits on a board extremely well. My only issue with pedal is powering the dumb thing. Other than that, the pedal is a God send

Having a headphone output is pretty important to me and most all-in-one modelers have it, while most amp-in-a-box pedals and the Tonex pedals don't.

I love the stomp....but....i see dudes point. Hes not wrong. I was gonna go single pedals. But i figured 3 good effexts on the stomp and id be saving money
..but its way better than i thought....but i see his point. Idk that it was worth 600...but im happy with it. So im not complaining. I say its worth the price....barely....but its still bad ass. And another thing about singles, if your like me, you may not be expieranced enough with pedals. Ive been playing bass 35 years. But i can see buying a single and not being sure if its right for me. Ans if its a disappointment, you lost money thst couldve went to a stomp...i didnt want a stomp...i took a gamble. Didnt know shit...i plugged it in...first note blew my mind. Its alot...but im surprised how easy it is to use, ive been anke to use it and make presets by pushing buttons...but its kinda overwhelming...kinda...i also like figuring things out. So its cool...but its an extensive process...being a bass player that solos, and plays chords, i know what im lookin for. Its just setting it all up....but i mean hell...ive already made.several loops, and ive got a prerty good grasp of the basics. ..all in all im impressed with it...but its new...well see in about a month.

Even with the smaller foot print of the ToneX the HX stomp still packs a lot in one unit.

Yes, some units may have stronger recreating mod effects or stronger amp models. The case your making is more for someone is now building their own pedal board.

The hx stomp Still has midi, amp models, and effects in one unit. The interface is one of the best out there and the Actual unit is easy to toggle around.

you make some fair points.... That being said, if you have the funds to go with the Stomp, even if you are only planning to use it for just amps, or just modulation, or just delay and verb, you always have the option to use it as a stand alone "all in one" type of fly rig if you want to or need to. If I was going to get a Stomp, that is probably how I would use it... But I have an LT and a PodGo, so I probably won't get the Stomp any time soon unless I just find one stupidly cheap.

POD Express gives you the HX models of a Matchless DC30 and a Fender Princeton Reverb, mod reverb, tape delay, good modulation options, and a Klon if you need it. It should just be every worship Guitarists backup rig who isn’t already a TONEX user. And it will run on batteries. If IK enabled midi control of the FX in TONEX One I’d have one.

I agree that the hx stomp price is certainly high for a digital processor that was lauched more than 6 years ago.
That said, all your arguments is about stuff that replicate only a part of what the hx stomp does: the point is that this unit does everything in a small package, and it does everything quite well.
If I had to make a comparison, I would rather consider something in the same product range like: hotone ampero line, headrush core, boss gt1000 core, mooer ge 1000 etc.

Actually the big sky MX can run 2 algorithms at once.

Lad, the Stomp covers more than one or two pedals as is your argument.... Noise Gate, Compressor, Pitch, Modulation, Drive, Amps, Cabs, Delay, Reverb, Stereo FX Loop, MIDI, Stereo in / Stereo Out, Headphone Output and shed loads more FX.
