Watching this 180 days evolution has been quite enjoyable and instructive. Once again, I'd like to emphasize that fewer fish, more plants, and sufficient light can prevent algae issues. We should patiently wait without stressing the ecosystem.

Thank you so much for watching this video!

This is the most relaxing aquarium setup video I've ever seen. I wonder if we sometimes become too perfectionistic about an ecosystem needing water filters, CO2 systems, various substrates, and chemicals, forgetting about a natural ecosystem like this one.

Man, to have a setup like that, I'd be sitting in front of it for hours peacefully enjoying the simplicity of all the inhabitants of said ecosystem.

Tank size and the amount of plants and fish is why no filtration can work. If you have a small tank, it's harder to achieve. But balance between plants and the amount of fish is key.

Earlier this week after a few months of preparation I finished setting up my first fish tank. I'm applying the same philosophies as you and watching your journey with this thank excites me about the journey I am about to embark on with mine. You were an absolute inspiration in determining what I wanted my fish thank to be and for that I will be eternally grateful.

i had a 10 gallon run 10 years before i ever did a water change as a kid growing into a teenager. i have a 55 gal now and only change the water 50% maybe once or twice a year. gravel a couple plants and a canister filter. my cory cats are 15-18 years old and my albino bristle nose is about 12 now.

This is the way they're meant to be setup. I've got a 75g with soil and sand substrate, tons of plants, hundreds of cherry shrimp, a few amano shrimp, a nerite snail, tons of pest snails, ottos, khuli loaches and a pile of guppies. No water changes, no fertilizers, no filters, no heater and it's thriving. No algae and no issues, looks beautiful.

Such a beautiful video, and very helpful to me as I’m about to set up my first dirted, sand capped, planted ecosystem. This video is so inspiring, encouraging, and full of useful information! It was really helpful that you demonstrated over feeding. Everyone talks about it, but as a beginner, I was really happy to see it shown so clearly. Thank you!!!

I just want congratulate you on this beautiful tank. A few years back I've also created a self sustaining eco tank just adding water when needed and pruning the plants. Once the tank was established I stopped feeding my fish and and the fish just started breeding and multiply. Corry's bred tetras bred and the whole tank just flourished. The biggest key to success is to keep the tank well balanced. I so happy to see there is more people believing that it is possible as the over whelming idea of keeping a healthy aquarium is so based on filters and water change water change and water change. For those who wants to try it be patient and don't disturb the substrate and dont re-scaoe the tank leave it to set in. Beautiful tank well done❤

Nice informative relaxed video.

Kids play sand is a good cheap source of river sand, 15KG for £3. Its not always river sand so read the info on the back.
I wash it a few times to get rid of mud and powdery bits of sand.
Its labour intensive washng your bodyweight in sand, but its worth it over paying £16 for 7.5KG of sand from aquarium shop.

that is the reason most don't use dirted tanks.. we can rescape or mess with the substrate or pull out rooted plants.. also I had big problems with assassin snails they harm smaller nerites and also ram horn snails which eat algae

I have a 30L midi tank, on which I haven't changed the filter or water in 180 days. I perform only top up 3L water every few days of evaporation. The water is clear. I need to maybe syphon some loose dirtvut its been working great with fish thriving.

Understock your tank, don't over feed and have lots and lots of plants, you do that and maintaining water quality is very easy

Use soil when you never plan to touch your aquarium again.

No uprooting plants, no rebuilds. Just scape and leave it alone aside from some trimming or adding materials
