I've used the same Marvell GigE chip before and was hit with the same NDA rubbish! A sympathetic dealer let us have the datasheet on the sly...

We have the same thing in Australia, called the do not call register. But it's only for telemarketers, so consultants and suppliers you've delt with in the past are probably exempt.
A friend just gives the phone to his 3yo!

@holdersm33 You don't have to be friends with recruitment consultants. They can hate your guts and they'll still get you the job because they need the commission. Remember, they called me asking to do THEIR job for them, those people don't deserve to be in the business. There are some decent recruitment consultants around.

A pity you saved your most useful rant for last. It is indeed incredibly annoying to have to signup for sites for datasheets or to have to talk to sales reps to get the "full datasheet" because the one they provide do not even have the basic IC pinout. Thanks for the rant, there entertaining. Keep em coming haha

Couldn't agree more. About the only time recruiters ever call is to ask if I know anybody ELSE looking for a job. The WORST ones are where they have a job in mind, spend 15 minutes doing the pre-interview, get you all hyped up, and then, NOTHING! Call and call, and they can't bother to answer the phone, or call you back. USELESS!

I agree. I can't stand recruitment companies. They just want to use everyone in THEIR business deal. Many don't even care to meet you, they just want a business deal done and use someone in the process. BUT what is even worse is if something goes wrong they never hesitate to dump you and side with the client. If anyone seriously needs money it is a way to go, but just know what you are getting into

It's funny this video popped up in my "You should watch this again" list today. I got a phone call or email EVERY DAY this week from a different recruiter. Monday it was a contract mechanical engineer position miles away. Tuesday was a PCB designer position 2000 miles away, Wednesday was an EE job ~400 miles away, and Thursday was an Exchange administration position 60 miles away. Do these people even READ the resumes they find?

Here in Mexico there's a law that avoids "phone spamming". You just have to register your phone number if you want to avoid these people from calling you.

If they do, their phone call is logged and they have to pay a fine. :D

I know exactly how you feel about registering for datasheets! I'm building a project on an Altera 3C120 FPGA board, and it has a Marvell GigE PHY. Marvell makes you sign a FREAKING NDA to get the datasheet!

What could possibly be so secret about the part?! Luckily I've been able to piece together enough info from Google to get it working. I would never in a million years consider buying anything from Marvell.

Dave I can relate to that 100%. Recruiters suck. I used to work as an engineering recruiter and its exactly the shit I had to do. I hated it. Endless cold calls to companies, endless calls to candidates. You have to learn how to enjoy licking people's arse with the tip of your tongue in this industry and boy am I'm glad I quit this shit.

I know someone who answers sales calls and anything without a caller ID with the phrase "What is your authorisation code?"
