IBHS' Guide to Gable End Bracing

Показать описание
Gable end walls and the roof sheathing at the gable end can take a tremendous beating during a hurricane, and if not properly attached and braced, they fail and cause catastrophic damage to your home. However, of all the possible structural retrofits, gable end walls can be the easiest to strengthen and should be a high priority on your retrofit list.

Great older video. Question, does any engineer know if this would be good for earthquake bracing as well, or just wind?

That looks like tarpaper at the gable end. So is it just siding on the outside? Any guidance on reinforcing this?

My 2x3 gable end studs have other 2x3s fitted diagonally between and in the same plane. These diagonals are fitted against the edges of the 2x3 studs so that so that I cannot nail or overlap a retrofit stud along the complete edge of original studs. Can i attach retrofits to the faces of the original studs somehow to accomplish the strengthening as the retrofits in the video?

you need the diagonal to keep it from racking or accordion'n over, the the temp brace is more important than all the shit you did,

that looks like a home-made gable truss, and not a good one. also, totally unacceptable to notch along the top to support the overhang
