The only thing that stopped me from infinite scrolling

There are five things that I now do, simply by using a pen which have stopped me from infinite scrolling and banished my crippling internet and social media addiction.

There is also one thing I now do with a pen and paper that I credit with completely overhauling my diet and changing everything that I eat. I wanted to share all of this with you in the hope that you find it useful.

If you are interested in trying out any of the things I talk about in this video, then start small. If you start with habit tracking, don't try and track too many new habits as this will inevitably lead to failure. As with anything new, try and develop the habit in a very small way and nurture it from there.

I started doing all of these exercises using pen and paper, but I now use the Remarkable Paper Pro. This tool has really helped organise all of my documents, ideas and journaling. However, you absolutely do not need this to do any of the things I talk about in this video.

Outline:

00:00 The habit tracker and mood checker
00:18 Notice the cues
01:12 What gets measured gets managed
01:38 Set up guide
03:17 Don't break the chain
04:29 Change what you eat
06:21 Storyworthy
07:29 As Many Wins As Possible
08:37 3 key tasks
09:46 Acknowlegements

Thank you for watching!

This is actually one of the best habit tracking I’ve seen so far.

As someone else commented: the irony is that most of us would not have seen this video if we had not been mindlessly scrolling….

This is psychotically organized and I love it.

Tracking not controlling helped me a lot.

Just so people know: going on a 5k run (or any distance) can not be "undone" by the amount of food you eat that day. You will be fitter and stronger regardless, and able to run further next time after recovery.

Infinite scrolling brought me here, thankfully. I have been trying to stop it. This will hopefully break the cycle, thank you.

Of all of the self help focussed videos on this topic, I have to say this is the first one to have me ACTUALLY turning off my phone, picking up a book and making an action. I came back 10 minutes later, having made a habit tracker, to leave this comment. Bravo good sir

As someone with ADHD who constantly struggles to stay motivated, get things done and keep track of habits, these ideas will definitely help me!

Also your monthly habit tracker setup with the checkered notebook is so perfectly simple. It's so much simpler than all the ideas for habit tracking I was having and never got around to. Just realized I have one of those checkered notebooks lying around behind me and I immediately started copying the layout.

I also got tired of mindless scrolling, and didn't know how to break that cycle, but the concepts from a book "The Joy Equation: Play Smart, Live Big" changed everything for me. I learned how to balance fun, focus and real fulfillment, without feeling like I am missing out on something. Please don't let distractions ruin your life.

“Story worthy” seems like a great conversation/social tool to have something to talk about and also make your life seem less boring and monotonous

game changer.
In the future when they wonder what old people are doing they will find this. It would be nice. You are documenting your life.

Seriously, thank you for taking the time to write an introduction and outline with time stamps. Very valid concern to remind us to start small.

This should be part of a comprehensive critical thinking curriculum for today’s students- they need to not only understand how to analyze the information coming at them, but how the information environment manipulates them. Some of this is far too habitual for my creative, ADHD brain & a set-up for failure - just for me, personally. But the concept of finding ways to mitigate and manage the impact of these systems in order to preserve a sane, thoughtful, intentional existence can be adjusted and adapted. Thank you for sharing in such detail. 🙏
