Now refuse workers in Birmingham have overwhelmingly rejected a deal from the Council aimed at ending their long-running strike.

The Unite union described the offer as "totally inadequate" and said it failed to address pay cuts.

Meanwhile the council has declared a major incident while rubbish piles up. And there are so many rats in the streets - they've been nicknamed 'Squeaky Blinders'.

Mattresses, sofas, tyres, pretty sure bin men don't collect that stuff anyway, this isn't just desperation this is people that don't care.

Get the lazy labour councillors to pick the Rubbish up.
Earn their extortionate wages.

I don’t blame the bin men one bit, they needed to take a stand. Some of them have worked for 10+ years on zero hours temp contracts, agency workers, who could be let go at any time without reason. It’s not right

Whilst the head of the council picks up her £295k salary for failure. How can thst be justified when Birmingham city council has gone bankrupt

Funny thing is bin men collect bin bags not furniture so obviously people are using the strike to dump big stuff

Pay them what they're worth. Don't blame the bin men.

People... if you really care for your area, for your children, for solution, be sypathetic to the bin men, refuse to pay your council tax and meantime those who can take your own rubbish to the recycling points, for those who cant, then those who can, those who have transport, help your neighbours, take your rubbish and theirs too.
There's too much of people being entitled and lazy, sitting back and complaining instead of taking action and working together. I don't blame the bin men and I don't blame the rats who are just trying to survive at the end of the day, don't leave things so long and provide a rat haven in the first

£8000 x 200 workers = £1.6M. Apparently now it will cost £200M to clean up?

The head of the council should be getting their wages cut instead of the people on the ground who work so hard to keep the council going on less and less money every year

Cats normally fear rats. That is why ratters used dogs.

The community let it get that bad. They could have taken their own rubbish to the tip. To get the army to clean up is entirely disrespectful

Either pay the bin men what they are owed or declare a bank holiday, and have the whole community pick up their rubbish

Why don't the residents take there rubbish to the council offices, they have the cheek to raise council tax for services not given

Birmingham looks like that all the time

I am with the Union. Pay them a decent wage for doing a dirty job. And do not replace them with agency workers . Or have agency workers undercutting the Union if Union members cannot do overtime for whatever reason.
