Reminder that Seel isn't an ice type. It's pure water until it evolves at level 34. Shelder is the same way (except that it's a stone evo). Honestly I think it'd be fine for Seel to be available a bit earlier and even evolve earlier to give it a niche to separate it from Lapras; it has a BST of 500 compared to Lapras' 545.

I feel like focus energy giving auto crit isn’t as crazy as you may think. It essentially garuntees double damage which is strong yes but then there is also swords dance which (because of how damage is calculated in pokemon) can quadruple your damage output at max stack, and also doubles your damage output with one stack. Essentially, Focus Energy with auto crit is a swords dance you can’t stack but allows offensive power on both the physical and special side. It’s kind of like how reflect is just barrier that can’t stack.

Could you let Venusaur learn Earthquake via TM?
Charizard and Blastoise are able to, and it helps Venusaur a lot with coverage.
It can also learn it in its gen 3 counterpart, so it seems fair.

Creating a Patreon, with even the slightest indication that it will financially support these projects, is a surefire way to piss off the notoriously-litigious entity that is Nintendo. While I respect the reason you may want to do so, and that people want to provide financial support for the amazing work that you and your team are doing, I absolutely don't think it's worth the risk.

Nintendo is not to be fucked with, and receiving financial support for a fan-made modification of their intellectual property is nothing short of playing with fire. I hope you take that into consideration before taking such a risk - which could not only bring an end to these projects, but land you in court.

Please don't make a Patreon that is in any way tied to these projects.

For an early ice type, i recommended Shellder being a good rod encounter. You fight enemy shellder early game so it fits to get around there. You can get good rod in Vermillion now. Shellder is a good rod encounter in gen 2, and you can use a water stone whenever you want to get the ice type. A cloyster by celadon feels ok.

I died and became a ghost, I'm fast and strong. Why I died? I don't know, I forgot. I must have amnesia, I guess

Giving razor wind early is smart. Its good on a pokemon like pidgey/pidgeotto or spearow/fearow that early. It can't learn mega punch so it's an option for these kinds of pokemon. It is STAB. The pidgey line has sand attack to help deal with the 2 turns. And it's good for bypassing the rival's healing turn, teaching the benefits of a strong 2 turn attack.

It's not a good end game move, be we have to remember that not all moves are supposed to be. We have to think of it as a good early game option like Horn Attack that eventually falls off, just in time for a replacement like Fly or Drill Peck. Putting it before Cerulean was probably the best thing to do for it, since it outlives its usefulness by the time you get it in the base game, when the flyers already got the better move fly at the same time they get razor wind.

Razor Wind being an early hyper beam for flyers is good too. Fearow always runs hyper beam, so having it switch from razor wind to hyper beam is like going from peck to drill Peck.

I don't understand some people. "Misty got a Pokemon from the show that matches the type of her gym, so Brock should have a Pokemon that doesn't match the type of his gym."

Anyways, thanks for giving a buff to Ditto!

The actual way yellow looks at which eeveelution the rival uses is:

If you lose against rival 1 in the lab, it's Vaporeon no matter what. If you win in the lab, but skip the route 22 fight and defeat Brock, it's Flareon. You can't "lose" that fight. It just sends you back to the pokemon center like any other fight and he's still there to fight again. Beating him after losing the lab is still a Vaporeon, and rematching and beating him after losing in route 22 and winning the lab is still a jolteon.

As a counter to the Razor Wind idea... the game says, "[Pokémon] is making a whirlwind" on turn 1. I'd just change it to base 100 and Flying-type and never think about it again.

Idk if I've brought this up, but I feel like the best choice for Razor Wind is to make it flying type Solar beam, basically going back to what Sky Attack used to be.

60 base power Night Shade is really fair I think. Honestly I would keep it there. It makes it useful but not insane.

@26:00 Janine is located behind the Chansey in the zoo area in FRLG, so you should move her there.

Could you add two more gym trainers to first gym, brock had lots of siblings in the anime, could be and hint to that, sandshrew, diglet, cubone, nidorans as pssible pokes.

Hey Smith, on the Gengar balance debate, there are genuinely people out there that don’t care about balance or fairness. They want the bazooka in every game and just blow up the entire game with it. They are the people that wouldn’t mind getting Mewtwo instead of Pikachu at level 5.

Still think it is a bit weird, that Meowth isn't always Jessys and James last Pokemon. Its always their last resort^^

50:38 Another exercise:
Razorwind = Ominous Wind, aka the Gen1 60 BP ghost type move so that Nightshade gets pushed back for the Gengar line and other Pokemon like Ninetails do not suffer from the BP change.
