Replaced purge & vent valves + gas cap to no avail. Last week I put the gas cap on with 1 click instead of the 3 clicks that I did on my old Silverado for 8 years.
The truck sat all day and when I started it in the evening the SES light went out and stayed out all weekend. When I drove it Monday, I went over the RR tracks and the light came back on. I'll try some of that dielectric grease tomorrow. Love your humor.

I've never had a repair be the " 99% of the time its this cheap easy fix ". Mine are always the trouble shooting nightmare, that you throw 2-10 parts at before getting it figured out.

I agree. There is more "vapor" released when pumping than on this system. Once had this code and it was the rubber cross-over hose going over the axle on our 2002 Jeep liberty. Also did have a bad cap another time. Good info!

Never a gas cap. I've gone through three of them & no go!

The gas cap is the one part of the emissions system that gets touched on a regular basis. I love my smoke machine but evap leaks can be a challenge especially when the charcoal canister removes the smoke before the leak.

Here's a tip: stop overfilling your gas tank. I know it feels better to fill to $30 than $27.38 but you are flooding the evap system. This is especially true if you drive a Hyundai.

I've been getting this code every couple months for the better part of 3 years. I would just clear the code and move on with life. Not the greatest move for the environment, but the car runs fine. I visually inspected my gas cap and it looked fine, I'll give the wire brush and silicone a shot. I have my doubts, but you've never led me astray. Your WRX shock install video is the only reason there's new shocks on my WRX..

Wow Deja vu. I just replaced the filler neck in a 2000 Corolla and now it has a leaking brake line. The Corolla you showed did not have any covers on those lines running to the back. The one I'm working on has covers and I don't think it's such a great idea. Water, mud, ice, and snow can get lodged up in those covers and cause early rust on those lines. I am doing a quick 2 foot repair on the brake line but I think I am going to look into replacing those two lines all the way back the rear wheels. Great video and BFATE.

Telling people to remove rust with a steel brush where gasoline vapor is present is inherently dangerous!!! Brass brush will clean up rust, and won't spark!!

Then after that silocone fix charge the customer $500 and tell them it’ll take at least 3 days because you have to wait for parts and then tell them you gave them a discount and only charged them $350.

Metal on metal spark. I don’t recommend following the wire advice.

I have been trying to find a leak for awhile on my 2006 Acura TL, bought the smoke machine, still couldn't find it. Maybe I need to try that again? Once in awhile I can smell gas when it's hot out. I also have pulled off the canister and put a little pressure to it and it seems to be holding. I guess I'll replace the gas cap again and try the silicone. I just adjusted my valves and replaced spark plugs last night, and it is running better. I just hate taking it places because half the time I feel like the guys that work on it didn't have any better ideas than me.
Good video, thanks Brian.

Wonderful information, thank you for the walkthrough. I have the capless system on my 09 F150. Wish there was an aftermarket retrofit allowing for the traditional fill and cap.

Failed my emission test due to code po442, went to autozone auto parts they scanned my onboard computer to confirm the code. Turned out to be bad gas tank filler cap to correct and check engine light is now off. Viewed the videos on you tube before going to autozone

A super common EVAP issue with Toyota cars is the VSV. It will throw P0440, P0441.

If the EVAC system is as it should be, with no leaks, should the engine immediately start up ? Mine takes a few spins before it kicks over. Plus, I have a gas smell coming from the rear of the vehicle. I have no Check Engine light, and the last time that I checked, there were no trouble codes. I put a new gas cap on it. I have a 2002 DOHC 3.0L Ford Taurus.
