Good tip. I do this too and I also sometimes parameter lock the filter on the steps in the bass where it overlaps with the kick. It's far from proper sidechaining but it helps keep the muddiness out of the signal.

Is there a way to only remove the kick frequency in case you have a bass with a sub oscillator that you want to keep below the kick?
