JOKER Movie, Peter Thiel as Bruce Wayne and Eric Weinstein as Robin.

This is a video I abandoned because I messed up the sound and only shared it on the Discord server. Byrne Power repaired it. I had decided to abandon it for another attempt at treating the JOKER but since I didn't have a video to post today and Byrne gracious fixed it why not share it.

So Eric Weinstein's portal is sort of the Batcave and Peter Thiel is sort of a Bruce Wayne. They want to save decaying Gotham (now on the West Coast) The problem is that what they (and Rationality Rules) are dealing with is not the world as modernism imagines. Modernism is crumbling and the titans of the world are trying to find the next great thing. Meanwhile the sheep are reasonably anxious about their future.

34:01 In the early 1900s, The Times of London posed the question: "What's wrong with the world today?". . . G.K. Chesterton wrote in:

Dear Sir,

I am.

Sincerely Yours,
G.K. Chesterton

Just when I think PV can't hit the ball any further: (HOLY COW)!..as Harry Carey used to say. He just put it outa Wrigley on to Addison Ave. WOW...that was a humdinger of a piece. That took some real intellectual and existential type chops...I remove my hat: SALUTE!

loved getting to hear a little autobiographical connection to film! as I mentioned on twitter, i thought throughout the movie about Chris Arnade's work and thought it was a warning to the front row that they better start seeing the back row kids

I watched a clip of Sam Harris answering questions after one of his talks that showed me that even he doesn't believe that his science based way of living can work.

A woman in the audience said she agreed with him about free will being an illusion. Then she asked Sam, "knowing this what do I say to my 5 year old when I try to get him to behave ? If I tell jim free will is an illusion or test him as if it is then I won't be able to get him to behave".

Sam's answer was, "lie to him". He just admitted that his philosophy cannot work.

42:30 And Solzhenitsyn / The Gulag Archipelago:
"The line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either -- but right through every human heart -- and through all human hearts."

"Everything must go" What a way for the movie to resume its theme in its first 5 minutes.

This is what I posted on my Facebook page today:

Today I went to see 'The Joker'. I will only write a few things --

+ It was grim.

+ I advise anyone that intends to see the movie to not listen to any self-appointed critics, whether or not they give away spoilers. What you come away with means more than what they have say. If I had not listened to so many podcasters analyzing the movie it would have been better -- or worse? -- than it was.

+ Just after seeing the movie I went into Walmart to buy a few things. I was still under the influence of the movie. I had an odd feeling...it was like I couldn't distinguish the people in the movie from those walking the aisles at Walmart. I felt a...the only word I can come up with is beneficence ... toward all the people...all the people in Walmart. I had to hold back a sob. I have never had a feeling like that before.

What an excellent excursion from the movie. Thanks for connecting so may dots. Lots to think about. The culture and society as a whole seems to be unconsciously and in a certain sense involuntarily (because we don’t see the long term effect of our short term decisions) invoking a totalitarian solution to our enormous challenges. And we already know how well that works. 🙁 Keep the faith.

Great stuff Paul. You and David Gornoski are the only ones who have truly nailed the movie analysis of Joker.

Paul, you are really good at this! And I say this as someone with some significant belief differences.

Paul, maybe you should take some of the best of your analyticals, and go to Toronto, rent the same halls as Jordan did, do a series of lectures, tickets similarly priced, (at least to cover your costs) and see how many show up. I say do it in Toronto because we want that variable controlled, and because the pump has already been primed there.

Also, having just been on a visit to Toronto, I now appreciate that it has the University of Toronto (65, 000 students and faculty) and Ryerson University smack dab in the middle of the city centre.

Plus you will be able to see Jordan and John while you are there!✨😹💫

In this context it might be helpful to read the article published in Quillette on October 5, 2019 - The dangerous life of an anthropologist (James Blackwell). I did anthropology and sociology for a couple of years at uni and it always intrigued me how the "noble savage" meme permeated the subjects (hangover from Rousseau).

Eric Weinstein's true voice is quite disturbing @11:40

So nobody's gonna talk about the Dr. Ruth Westheimer kiss on the show? That's my interpretation anyhow.

Brought me back to the surrealism filming of the Natural Born Killers movie.
