#GIZworks - Ethiopia: Strengthening Drought Resilience

Показать описание
More than half of the approximately 1,5 million inhabitants of the Afar region in Ethiopia live below the absolute poverty line. The livelihood of the people in the region is either pure animal husbandry or a mixture of agriculture and livestock farming. Population growth and climate change are putting traditional farming systems under increasing pressure. Climate-related extreme weather events such as droughts or floods extremely reduce food security, hygiene and health in the region.
We support the local population in protecting themselves against these environmental influences, for example by building thresholds. These prevent the soil from drying out after a flood. 3,500 hectares of farmland are thus made available for agriculture again.
