101 Introduction to political science

A brief introduction to what the discipline of political science is all about.

I'll be taking my first year in college majoring in Political Science. I've been struggling to find materials that would really help me to do advanced studies before the classes start, this is what I'm totally looking for. Thank you Professor Hellstrom! Such an outstanding discsussion.

I’m an Egyptian Computer Science student at the university of London. While I seem to enjoy programming, I think that I have greater interest towards politics. I love reading about politics and listening to political podcasts. In addition, my country (Egypt) has been a military dominated state since the 1950’s with widespread corruption and domestic challenges like: poverty, lack of education and diseases. While we managed to successfully topple a dictator (Mubarak) and managed to elect our President for the first since the proclamation of the republic and the abolishment of the monarchy, that brief experiment with civilian rule wouldn’t last as the military regained power after deposing the elected President in a coup a year later.

I applied for the United States Diversity Visa Lottery Program. I’m seriously thinking about studying economics and politics in the U.S. and return to Egypt after receiving masters in politics and join Egyptian politics. I hope to become the President of my country one day and fix many of its existing challenges that are impacting the country and its people for decades.
