Fun fact: amphibious invasions are extremely difficult, and very few have succeeded throughout history.
Normandy, 1944, and Sicily, 1943 were the outliers, and their success made casuals think it's easy.

The Gallipolli campaign was one where the world's largest Navy failed to beat soldiers who did not even have socks to wear.

✉️ Letter from Atatürk to Anzacs:
“Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives …You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side in this country of ours. You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries, wipe away your tears. Your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.”

Respect to Turkey. We may have fought against each other but from all that fire and death a friendship was forged for over a century. Lest we forget all those who fell.

Churchill’s words in intro was for WWII. In this war they were the invaders not defenders.

My grandfather lost his footing in Gallipoli and lived that way, but he left us a homeland where we could live. I respectfully remember these brave men in history🙏🇹🇷

My father’s grandfather lost three of his elder brothers in this campaign and he was spared because he was so young that he had to serve behind the lines, and after the war, there was even a greater war for him because he had to take care of all of his brothers families.

Dur yolcu! Bilmeden gelip bastığın
Bu toprak, bir devrin battığı yerdir.
Eğil de kulak ver, bu sessiz yığın
Bir vatan kalbinin attığı yerdir.Bulgaristan Türklerinden ne mutlu Türküm diyene ❤️

If you come to turkey and have a chance to visit gallipoli which is quite near many resort towns; you may see that landing at anzac cove is one of the most stupid ideas ever. But the allies couldnt manage to push forward in other parts of the front as well. Actually you may think liman von sanders was right not to expect such landing points. Churchill was so arrogant that they could easily crush turks from unexpected geography. Mustafa kemal was right in his expectation in this strategy, he became a prominent military figure not only for turks and axis but also for the allies. He became a general by his success in this front.

Churchill doomed 60k men lifes, just for his arrogance and greed. It was a suicide mission since the beginning with very few chances of winning. He understimated the ottomans, the german advisors and the difficulties of anphibious operations.
He never paid for the lifes he sacrificied, he even accused his admirals of being cowards. What a pathetic guy he was.

The defense of a nation alone against the greatest states of its time is terrifying. There is divine timing here.

Here is some info for everyone stating that Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk) was a low ranked commander:
Gallipoli Campaign had 2 phases. Sea battles started in February 1915 and ended in March 1915. Sea battles were the tiny part of the war compared to Landings in both causalities and time taken. Landings started in April 1915 and ended in January 1916. Mustafa Kemal joined Gallipoli as a lieutenant colonel leading only a few divisions. He did not take part in sea battles. He prepared his forces for landing and predicted Allies landing positions with precision. Following his success, he was was given command of Ariburnu Forces (about 20.000 soldiers) and immediately promoted to Colonel at the end of May. He recieved the command of Anafartalar Group and won the First Battle of Anafartalar. Then he received the command 19th Corps, commanding 130.000 soldiers. He won Second Battle of Anafartalar and a few other minor victories. After bringing the battle to stalemate (strategic victory for Ottomans and Central Powers), he returned to the capital, giving the command of his 130k soldiers to Fevzi Bey (Cakmak). At the start of next year he was promoted to mirliva (General). He was also known as "The Hero of Anafartalar" by his nation, which helped him start Turkish National movement and Turkish War of Independence.

Another trivia: Churchill had to resign two times because of Mustafa Kemal. One after Gallipoli Campaign. And one after Chanak Crisis at the end of Turkish War of Independence. Mustafa Kemal was also one of the main figures who caused British to lose their colonies after they refused to send soldiers at the end of Turkish War of Independence.
