🤔Have you recently managed a patient with pericardial effusion?
🤔How were the heart sounds?
🤔Were you able to find the cardiac pulse on the point of maximal impulse?

Pericardial effusion without cardiac tamponade causes the heart to look globular or water bottle shaped on a chest x-ray.

Physical examination will reveal distant heart sounds. It's also difficult to palpate the cardiac pulse at the cardiac apex. This point is called the point of maximal impulse. (Mid-clavicular line, fifth intercostal space.)

I am a 19 year old female. For about 2-3 months, I have been experiencing bad sternum pain that is tender to the touch and branches out on my chest/top rib area. The pain has gotten worse and i started coughing and wheezing so they gave me Zpack and it fixed the coughing and wheezing. Everything else is the same and now i have shortness of breath (my breathing feels abnormal even though i can get a full breath) and sharp pains in my heart area. I also have noticed a lump right above my heart (the lump is my rib) but i’m scared there is something below that that is making it protrude and the area hurts to touch. My EKG was normal yesterday, but I am having an Eco, Xray, and CT scan done in three days. Does this sound like pericardial effusion. It is getting increasingly worse daily. My sternum hurts today and is very tender. I can always feel my heart beating, i have frequent sharp pain in my heart area, and i feel a lot of pressure. Can i wait three days to go to the doctor? I don’t want to go to ER because of coronavirus
