Engine is a SH-VPTS diesiel unit, which introduces the advanced DE Precision Supercharger Control to make the car's response to the accelerator even more direct. Another innovation is the Natural Sound Smoother, which reduces diesel engine noise, in addition to the Natural Sound Frequency Control, which reduces the occurrence of actual knocking. Thanks to these technologies, Mazda's diesel engine feels almost like a petrol unit in terms of sound, yet it has the characteristics of high torque and power available in diesel units over a much broader range of revs, right up to the rev areas of petrol engines.

It has a displacement of 2188 cc and develops 190 PS at 4500 rpm.
Maximum torque is available as wide as from 2000-6000 rpm with an output of stunning 450Nm.
The transmission is a 6 AT.
