Three obstacles Art will take away

Happy Sunday! Since I have been talking a LOT about obstacles over the past 10 days, I thought I would share the top 3 that most people seem to bring up and a few thoughts about how to lessen them.

They are..
#1 Fear of the unknown-

#2 Feeling Unworthy

#3 Worrying about what others think

These are, of course, common in life but also in art.
We all have these to some degree.
They probably are not going entirely away.
However, they can be lessened or made less prominent.

In all cases, the way to achieve this is by simply consistently making art. Creating a practice for even 10-20 minutes several days a week can go a long way to substantially reducing these challenges.

Listen, and let us know in the comments what has worked for you in lessening some of these common art/life obstacles.

I hope you get to make some art today!

Nicholas

Absolutely brilliantly put. I started painting at 70 years old having done virtually nothing since age 11. I do abstract painting and stone carving. The only person who can know whether it has succeeded in what I wanted is me. And it is SO joyful.
I really appreciate the time you spend making your videos. They are so supportive and encouraging. Thank you.

I can help with the money thing. If you paint in acrylics, it's easy to get leftover house paint from your friends and neighbors. And the thicker it is, the more texture it gives your work: always a good thing.

Wonderful inspiration. I’m remembering this, forever. “Fire and wisdom grown with age - never worry what others think, art is the answer back to you!!!”❤❤❤

P.S: i just next watched your YouTube from 3 years ago on how to start a painting, and it rules, but I also noticed how much more energetic and alive you seem now. You're doing something right🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

It's so hard not to care what others might think, even people you look up to or love. Thank you for your inspirational words. 👍🏽

Thank you for saying this. I'm 64 and started painting last year when I experienced 4-major losses. I always dabbled but got really into it. I broke down in tears the other day because I now focus only on outcome and the opinion of others. I'm scared to pickup another brush.

I just finished a major art project consisting of five pieces. Took me weeks. Came out great. What I didn’t expect were feelings that emerged like, ‘I think I’m done with art" - I know I’m not intellectually but I was surprised with the feelings that emerged.

I make a point of painting for at least 10 minutes a day without forcing results. It's so much about making art as it is about the art making me, the painting paints me.

I’m currently working on 6 to 8 pieces for a gallery. The first 2 are ready for resin. I’m having trouble with the 3rd. I put on meditation music and I find it really helps. However I’m using very muted colors white, pearl, cream and beige because that is what is requested. No black, brown, grey or yellow. The base coat is done I want to use texture (modeling paste) but figured it would get lost under the base coat. Can you apply it on top of a painted surface. This may be a silly question but I wasn’t sure.
