The Church of Saint Lazarus is named for new testament figure Lazarus of Bethany,

Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, you can find the whole story in the book of John,

According to orthodix tradition after the resurrection of Christ, Lazarus was forced to flee Judea because of rumured plots on his life then came here in Cyprus. There he was apointed by Paul and Barnabas as the first Bishop of Kition (is now called Larnaca)

He is said to have lived for 30 more years and on his death was burried there fir the second and last time.

The Biblical Story is that Lazarus was dead and buried for four days when Jesus arrived at his house in Bethany. Jesus performed a great miracle by raising him from the dead and back to life!
