The Food and Drug Administration approved a nasal spray for serious allergic reactions to food, medications and insect stings, marking the first needle-free treatment for such conditions. But, they rejected for now the first attempt to win approval of MDMA to treat post-traumatic stress disorder.

To be clear, epipens are only unaffordable in the USA. Just like insuline, the market profits of a necessity in the USA. It's not like that in other countries.

Not to mention epipens are very expensive

Some pharma bro : let's sell it for 700/per and give it a shelf life of a month.

That nasal spray sounds like a godsend for babysitters that are scared of stabbing someones chid wrong

It’ll be much cheaper, at most 199, but most will get it for 25$. It also has a longer shelf life and will be more stable in extreme temps.
It should be as effective for anaphylactic reactions as an epi pen.

So when are they getting distributed to everyone for free like a responsible country?

Fun fact about 4 years or so ago the nasal spray version of glucagon shots was released to the public (it’s called baqsimi) which makes treating people who are going into hypoglycemia a whole lot easier for the people around them (after all it’s a lot easier for a random person to use a nasal spray on someone who is having a seizure than a glucagon shot)

I like the subtle detail of how they refuse to go as she goes 😂

As someone who is terrified of needles and has had to use an epipen, it’s rlly not that bad. You don’t feel the needle at all and it goes by very fast. The bigger issue is how fucking expensive it is

Love your variety of information.
The twirly pen bugged me at first but now I want one.
Thanks. Your creative efforts are appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed. Educational humor is my favorite way to learn.

As someone combating a severe needle/self injection phobia, I really appreciate this!!

So sad about the MDMA for PTSD. They have been doing research on it for decades. There are lots of documentaries about it and the results are amazing.

MDMA did actually change my life and help me overcome a life of touch adversion from trauma after like two uses tbh …
But I don’t think I’ll ever do it again now that I’m here.

I don't have serious allergic reactions, but this would be a lifesaver for me if I did.

Let me tell you all as someone with severe peanut allergies: it does not matter how big a needle is or isn’t. When you’re starting to wheeze, you will jab that thing to live.

have I been jamming the epinephrine pen up my nostril the wrong way all this time?

As someone who has a sister with allergies and who needs an epipen, love this ❤

I have ptsd and do mdma, stuff is life changing. Don’t really know what more research they need but they should get it sooner rather than later. I have a decent career in IT, so it doesn’t affect everyone to unhealthy drugs etc.

It's not just for being a non-needle alternative, it's also meant to be a cheaper alternative to epipen.

I have one of those things just in case of a really bad seizure, super expensive but luckily I haven’t had to use it
