Brought back a phin filter from Vietnam a few years back. Didn't remember how to use it. Your video was very helpful. Many thanks!

Literally THE most dramatic cup-of-coffee in the history of making coffee. I needed a double whiskey after watching this, I was SO tense!

There are many possible factors at play but for whatever reason this steel plate flat-bottomed filter system produces a more "rounded" filter brew taste in my experience than the conical types and the paper filter pour-overs.(Combine with a steel pot and give a little bit of heat if required to ensure piping hot coffee.)

Great video and content. Would love to see this tightened up into a 60 second version.

I still don't understand how someone can like vietnamese coffee. They have so much tasty food in Vietnam, but the coffee... In the few weeks i've been there i drunk coffee from time to time, just to be reminded everytime how bad it is. I admit i might count as an coffee addict and that's why it was hard for me living without a proper one. No really, i did not drink one good coffee there. Vietnamese coffee is unfit for consumption without milk, and combined with condensed milk it is just worse (sugary slime).
Nevertheless, i found a way to drink it after all: with little condensed milk, an additional half of water and lots of ice.
It seems to me that this is pretty far away from coffee, which i normally enjoy black..
But if i ever feel really desperate, thanks to this video i now know how to reproduce it.

I got married and had kids during the length of this video. But the kids like the coffee. Goodbye, I have to die now.

I made this video from my lens test footage, I have no experience in neither filming nor film editing, I like this Amélie soundtrack and I tried my best to make this video. Keyboard warriors with mean comments from Boing Boing dot net or whatever it is. If you didn't contribute better videos with better recipe, please GTFO

what an useful video!
but i'd like to advice some of my trick
before u pour 60ml hot water into the filter, u should pour hot water into the cap, then put the filter on the cap, and a little more like 20ml into the filter for 2-3 minutes
by this way, coffee powder would be hotten, and grow its volume
then u press it firmly again
now put the filter on the cup and pour 60ml hot water and wait to enjoy

Using your exact measurements I was able to get the exact flavour I was use to in Vietnam. So far at home I was getting weak coffee and thought it was the type of coffee I bought. Thanks!

My daughter bought me a brewer while she was in Viet Nam. She gave it to me for a Christmas present. Now I know how to use it properly.
Thank you for posting the video.

Quick tip: dip your spoon for condensed milk in hot water and it will make pouring sticky condensed milk easier. The milk would slid off the spoon easily especially if it has sat in the fridge for too long

Thank you for making such lovely how-to video. The music really makes this coffee making time feel so relaxing and enjoyable. Your work is beautiful even though you mentioned that you don’t have filming or post editing background. It’s simple and easy to understand.

These days, people want information fast right at their fingertips that they forgot how to slow down and enjoy simple things in life.
