I love that bouncy feel, it’s much less when you get to your hunting height and lovely on a rope burner repel and stop!

John, thanks for the great video. In several videos you mentioned the use of a false crotch, for use in trees without a usable crotch to toss over. I hunt an area with very straight crotch-less trees. I plan on presetting these trees and feel a false crotch may be appropriate for this. Thanks for the great information you provide!

Great video, your passion for teaching really shows! Interesting hitches, not something I have seen as a mountain guide. I would strongly recommend not leaving hitches on for an extended period of time as you are unable to inspect the hitch, though the amount of friction and heat are minimal as you stated periodically inspecting gear is important. I have found over the years that I have to you at least 1/3 more energy on a dynamic rope, be it ascending or hauling, and in a hunting situation I haven’t found an advantage other than more readily available in smaller diameters.

I was asked what rope was used in this demonstration: It's Mammut Alpine Dry 8.0, a dynamic rope, which is NOT specifically designed for tree climbing. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the climber to decide which rope or cord they use for any application.

Would or could you use this rope to climb up via the saddle hunters hitch leap frog method? My debate is between this and RescTech, but I figured this would be much more resilient than the resctech.
