Today we are checking out another affordable pedal from Donner. This is the Dark Mouse distortion pedal. It offers two different clipping modes thanks to the 2-way toggle switch.

In the up position, we get the "classic" mode; in the down position, we have the "Hyper" mode. The Hyper mode offers more low-end and top-end frequencies and just a little more "oomph."

I was blown away with this pedal. I couldn't believe how good it sounds. I have 5 mini pedals on my home practice board (Donner, Rowan, Mosky), and they are as good as advertised.

I used it with Donner Classic Blues pedal on "Battle Rat Galaxy" to add a brighter tone and man sounds great!!!

I got one of these a little while ago and really like it. A good sign was that the Distortion effect was great before you even turned dial to the 12o clock position.

The hyper mode sounds like an actual ProCo raspy & snarly! FYI - That reverse tone control is how it is on an actual Rat.

Hey, Shane- yup, I dig Donner. My v1 Yellow fall is still a great "analogish" delay. I'm also not opposed to a clone pedal- and this one is a "rat clone". For that, my favorite Rat is still the Little Bear R.Attack. However, the key to any Rat, in my opinion, is how it handles the midrange on a slightly hot humbucker- so your milage may vary, etc. So, this one ain't bad, but if you dig Rats, definitely hunt one of those Little Bear ones down.

My old indie band was called "Mouse" - we were kinda dark at times.
The pedal sounds like an Lm308 RAT to me. Idk if it has *the* chip but I like it. Sounds more like a Buffalo than a Rodent.

It clips a bit, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The distorted clipping and tone reminded me VERY much of everything I like about Neil Young when he goes totally apeman!

Like Shane mentioned, probably more gain than I need, but provides something different th as n my SD-1. I was surprised at how well it cleans up rolling volume down on my Epi Led Paul. Cool little pedal.
