Other meaning: dont = including
Par exemple: il y a trois maisons dans la ville, dont la mienne.
There are three houses in the city, including mine.

I never learned about this while studying French in the USA. It wasn't until I got to France and took an intensive immersion program that I learned about dont... of work but no problem....passe compose and imparfait....same...lots of work but I got it....dont? It just doesn't come easily....and I never use it myself and am lucky to understand it when I hear or see it!

J'ai trouvé dans les memoirs de De Gaulle une phrase comme "L'homme dont j'ai demandé à nos amis qu'ils le trouvent n'est pas revenu" encore qu'il soit plus naturel d'écrire "L'homme que j'ai demandé à nos amis de trouver n'est pas revenu". Ne s'agit-il que de langue soutenue, la première phrase ?

I'm really confused as to how to fill blanks joining two sentences with dont and que. There is no de in the sentence so how do I know I have to place don't there
